My dear fashionistas, welcome to a new fashion story on the Mr.M blog. Some outfits start with a shirt. Others start with a great pair of shoes. This one started with a story most of us heard as children, long before we cared about fabrics or dial finishes. Today that story sits on my wrist as the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz, and it shaped everything I wore around it.
For this summer look, I chose a Ferragamo silk shirt with a painterly print and navy Ferragamo cargo trousers. Christian Louboutin Rantus Orlato high-tops in metallic blue python complete the outfit. Each piece carries its own history, and I love how they come together to make this outfit so unique.
Below, I share the details, the brand stories and a few styling ideas you can borrow. Whether you follow fashion, collect watches or simply enjoy good design, I hope you find something worth keeping.
CAN A SUMMER OUTFIT TELL THE STORY OF THE WIZARD OF OZ?
I believe clothes work best when they carry a mood, not just a label. Over years of dressing for shoots, meetings and travel, I have noticed one thing. The most memorable looks always have a thread running through them. Sometimes that thread is a color. Sometimes it is a craft. Here, it is imagination.
Color is the easiest way to show imagination. However, color can also go wrong quickly, especially in a calm, grown-up wardrobe. My solution is simple. I let one printed piece carry the energy and keep everything else in deep, solid tones.
This palette moves from sky blue to terracotta, butter yellow, olive and dusty pink. Navy grounds it, while green and metallic blue add a second layer of interest. As a result, the eye travels from the shirt to the wrist and down to the shoes without any clash.
There is also a second idea behind this outfit. Many of us spend our working lives choosing serious things: serious suits, serious cars, serious watches. Yet a touch of playfulness, done with real quality, often reads as more confident than another safe choice. That is exactly why the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz became the starting point for every decision you see in these photos.
THE FERRAGAMO SILK SHIRT: WATERCOLOR BLOCKS IN MOTION
The FERRAGAMO shirt brings most of the color to this look, and silk makes all the difference. It falls lightly, moves with every step and catches the light in a soft, almost liquid way. Silk also feels pleasant in warm weather, which makes it ideal for long summer days.
The print resembles watercolor brushstrokes arranged in blocks. The paint seems to fade at the edges, which gives the pattern a handmade softness. Blues dominate, but rust, peach and rose keep it from feeling cold.
The cut is relaxed, with short sleeves and an open camp collar. I wear it untucked with the top button open, because silk this fluid needs no extra styling. Pale buttons run down the placket and almost disappear into the print.
What I appreciate most is the balance. From a distance, the shirt reads as bold. Up close, it reveals subtle gradients and a fine sheen. That is exactly what I look for in printed menswear: it should reward a second look instead of shouting at the first one. Of course, a shirt like this needs the right partners. That is why the rest of the outfit stays quiet, and why the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz ended up playing such an important role.
SALVATORE FERRAGAMO: FROM HOLLYWOOD TO PALAZZO SPINI FERONI
The FERRAGAMO story reads almost like a film script. Salvatore Ferragamo left southern Italy for the United States in 1914, when he was just sixteen. He eventually reached California and opened the Hollywood Boot Shop in 1923. Soon, the biggest stars of the era became loyal clients. He even took anatomy classes to understand how feet support the weight of the body.
In 1927, he returned to Italy and chose Florence, a city with deep roots in art and craftsmanship. There he founded his company, focused at first on women’s footwear. In 1938, he bought Palazzo Spini Feroni, a palace that a wealthy cloth merchant commissioned back in 1289. Today it houses the company headquarters, a boutique and the Salvatore Ferragamo Museum, which opened in 1995.
Innovation followed him everywhere. During the difficult Depression years, he developed ideas such as the cork wedge heel and the steel shank. Later, the house grew far beyond shoes. According to the group’s own timeline, a silk and accessories collection arrived in 1971. Menswear then grew from the mid-1970s through the 1980s.
Since March 2022, British designer Maximilian Davis has served as creative director. I like that my shirt comes from a brand with such a long memory. For Ferragamo, silk and color are not passing trends. They are part of the house vocabulary.
FERRAGAMO: A RAINBOW CONNECTION TO DOROTHY
Here is the detail that made me smile while planning this post. In 1938, Salvatore Ferragamo created his famous Rainbow sandal for Judy Garland. According to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, he designed it a year before The Wizard of Oz. In that film, she sang “Over the Rainbow” as Dorothy.
That sandal was a small revolution. Ferragamo built its platform from layered cork covered in colorful suede, with straps in gold kidskin. It became one of the house’s most recognizable designs. Maximilian Davis even reimagined it for his pre-fall 2023 collection.
So pairing a Ferragamo shirt with the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz felt natural rather than forced. Two very different makers, working decades apart, found magic on the road to the Emerald City. One turned it into color underfoot. The other placed it somewhere over the dial.
MEET THE DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ WATCH
Now to the piece that quietly steals every photo. The Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz is not a watch you glance at and forget. It invites you to look closer, then closer again, until a tiny figure on the dial makes you smile.
At first sight, the green dial sparkles like a night sky above a meadow. Four small figures in gold and silver walk across it, as if they have somewhere important to be. A little star with a trail of light hangs nearby, while Roman numerals mark only part of the edge.
On the wrist, the polished steel case feels substantial and bright. It frames the colorful dial beautifully, and a green leather strap with a crocodile-style grain continues the emerald theme. Look at the crown, and you will spot a small green stone, which turns out to be an emerald.
What surprised me most is how well the watch works with clothes. Green is a tricky color in menswear. Here, however, it links the olive tones of my silk shirt with the deep navy trousers. In other words, the watch does not fight the outfit. It finishes it. For watch lovers, though, the real pleasure lies deeper. So let me tell you who made it, where the story comes from and why collectors pay attention.
WHO IS DMITRY CHUGUNOV, THE CREATOR OF THE WIZARD OF OZ WATCH?
Dmitry Chugunov is an independent watch designer who builds each project around a story. Instead of chasing technical records, he focuses on literature, art and emotion. His watches feel like chapters of one long book.
Before the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz, he created The Little Prince together with Anton Yaitsky. That watch paired an aventurine dial with hand-finished gold and silver imagery of Saint-Exupéry’s hero. It won the Russian Mechanical category at the 2022 Russian Watch Award. Russian watch bloggers even describe the new model as a natural continuation of that project.
His range goes beyond fairy tales. In 2021, he released Military Gamble, a 43 mm chronograph inspired by Hemingway’s novel For Whom the Bell Tolls. It came in 400 pieces, with 150 in bronze and 250 in steel. More recently, his channel has shown a Ballet model with a silver ballerina in relief on aventurine.
A clear signature connects all of these watches. Aventurine, precious-metal relief and literary inspiration return again and again. For collectors, that consistency matters, because it shows a real point of view.
Chugunov also works within a lively national scene. Konstantin Chaykin, for instance, has been a member of the AHCI, the academy of independent watchmakers, since 2010. Next to such technical virtuosity, Chugunov’s voice feels gentler and more poetic.

THE EMERALD CITY STORY BEHIND THE DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ WATCH
Many people know the Wizard of Oz through L. Frank Baum’s book or the 1939 film. However, the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz draws on another version: The Wizard of the Emerald City by Alexander Volkov. The novel appeared in 1939 as a liberal retelling of Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
In Volkov’s story, the heroine is Ellie rather than Dorothy. Leonid Vladimirsky illustrated the book, and a revised edition followed in 1959. For generations of Russian-speaking readers, this was the road to the Emerald City they grew up with.
I find that dual heritage fascinating. On international platforms, the watch appears under the Wizard of Oz name, which opens it to collectors everywhere. At home, it speaks directly to childhood memories of Volkov’s pages. One dial opens two cultural doors.
The four heroes on the dial are the ones everyone remembers: the girl, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion. Three of them search for qualities they believe they lack, while the girl simply wants to go home. Along the way, they discover that friendship and courage were with them all along.
That message suits a watch perfectly. After all, time is the one thing we always feel we lack. Wearing this piece reminds me to enjoy the walk instead of rushing toward the destination.
HOW THE DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ DIAL TELLS TIME
Aventurine forms the dial, a material prized in fine watchmaking for its sparkle. Here it glows in deep green, scattered with tiny glittering points. In sunlight, it shifts between bright emerald and almost black, so every photo looks slightly different.
The four heroes are bas-reliefs in gold and silver. Their surfaces carry fine texture, from the Lion’s mane to the Scarecrow’s stitched clothes and the Tin Woodman’s jointed limbs. Alternating metals keep the composition lively and easy to read.
The real magic, however, lives in the time display. You will not find conventional hands. Instead, a small star with a trail of light, a comet, travels above the heroes and marks the time.
Because this celestial indicator always stays above the figures, the whole scene turns with the passing hours. You can see it in my close-ups, where the procession sits at a different angle in almost every frame. Checking the time feels less like reading an instrument and more like visiting old friends.
I will be honest: this is not the quickest way to read the time. Yet speed was never the point. The Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz rewards a moment of attention, and that small pause quickly becomes a pleasant ritual.
DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ: STEEL, AN EMERALD CROWN & A SWISS HEART
Beneath the fairytale sits serious construction. The stainless steel case measures 43 mm in diameter and 15.3 mm in thickness, so it has real presence on the wrist. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the crown holds an emerald, a fitting nod to the Emerald City. It is the kind of detail you only discover up close, which I find very elegant.
Inside beats a Swiss Sellita SW200-1B automatic movement, heavily modified for this project. The base caliber runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 38-hour power reserve. Chugunov wrote on his channel that he thought people had never seen watches like this before. After wearing one, I understand why.
Chugunov planned a limited series of 500 pieces, and mine is number 188. For an independent project, a numbered edition like this says a lot about how seriously its author treats the work.
Recognition came quickly. At the Best Russian Watches 2024 contest, the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz won the Retail Choice award. Organizers announced the winners on October 9, 2024, the opening day of Moscow Watch Expo. That year, 40 companies and teams entered 67 models, and the public cast more than 25,000 votes.
International specialists have noticed as well. BackWatch Department, a Hong Kong platform devoted to independent watches, lists the Wizard of Oz in its Independent Watchmakers collection, alongside names such as Bovet, Ming and Delaloye. That is impressive company for a watch that began as a bedtime story.
WHY COLLECTORS SHOULD KNOW THE DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ WATCH
Some readers may wonder whether a fairytale watch belongs on a grown man’s wrist. I understand the question. My answer is a clear yes, as long as the craftsmanship is serious.
Think of it this way. Many of us already own a dependable steel sports watch or a classic dress piece. Those watches do their job beautifully. Still, a collection becomes truly personal when it includes something that reflects memory, humor and taste.
The Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz does exactly that. It is the kind of watch that invites people to lean in and ask about the figures. Conversations about favorite books and films follow naturally, and a watch suddenly becomes a bridge between strangers.
It also carries a useful lesson about style. Confidence does not come from wearing the most expensive or most recognizable piece. Rather, it comes from wearing something you understand and can discuss with genuine enthusiasm.
For me, that is the essence of a modern luxury watch: limited, thoughtful and full of character. It does not need a famous logo to feel precious.
FERRAGAMO NAVY CARGO TROUSERS: A CALM COUNTERPOINT TO THE SILK SHIRT
A colorful shirt needs a steady foundation and these navy FERRAGAMO cargo trousers provide it. Deep navy is one of the most useful summer neutrals. It feels softer than black, richer than gray and works with almost every accent color, including the green strap of the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz.
The fabric has a crinkled, slightly puckered surface that recalls seersucker. That texture keeps the trousers from looking flat and adds depth in close-up photos. It also suggests comfort, which matters on long days in the city.
The cut is relaxed, with a straight leg that falls cleanly over the shoes. Large patch pockets sit on the thighs and give the trousers a utilitarian edge. Thanks to the refined fabric, however, they read as smart casual rather than workwear.
I like how this silhouette balances the boxy silk shirt. Both pieces are loose, yet neither looks sloppy, because the proportions stay consistent from shoulders to hem. If you prefer a slimmer line, choose a tapered cargo and a slightly shorter shirt.
Cargo trousers have traveled far from their military roots. Today, luxury houses rework them in lighter fabrics with cleaner lines. Ferragamo’s version shows how a practical garment turns elegant when the details are right.
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN RANTUS ORLATO: METALLIC BLUE PYTHON HIGH-TOP SNEAKERS
The shoes add the final flash of light. These are Christian Louboutin Rantus Orlato high-top sneakers in python with a metallic blue finish. In sunlight, the scales shimmer between navy, cobalt and almost black.
The Rantus Orlato is a flat high-top with a python upper, lace-up closure and leather insole. A round leather Louboutin logo sits on the inner side of each shoe, and a vulcanized rubber sole anchors the design. On my pair, the rubber sole comes in a tonal blue, so the whole shoe reads as one glossy block of color.
I chose them because they echo the blues in the silk shirt and the navy of the trousers. At the same time, the python relates to the sparkle of the aventurine dial on the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz. Both surfaces play with light, so the look feels connected from wrist to toe.
High-tops also suit wide cargo trousers better than low sneakers. The hem rests gently on the shoe collar, creating a clean line instead of a messy break. For relaxed summer dressing, that small detail makes a big difference. Interestingly, Louboutin has offered this model in many finishes over the years, including a rainbow python version. Given the theme of this post, I find that rather charming.
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN’S RED SOLE: THE STORY THAT BEGAN WITH NAIL POLISH
Christian Louboutin opened his first Paris shoe salon in 1991. Before that, he apprenticed at the Folies-Bergère and gained experience working with master shoe designer Roger Vivier. Princess Caroline of Monaco became his first customer, and her praise helped spread his name.
The famous red sole arrived almost by accident. According to the brand, it happened in 1992 while Louboutin was finishing a prototype called Pensée. He found its black sole too dull and noticed an assistant painting her nails red. He grabbed the bottle and brushed the polish onto the sole, and the shoe came to life instantly.
That spontaneous gesture became one of the most recognizable signatures in fashion. Over time, the house expanded into handbags in 2003 and launched men’s shoes in 2011. Today, men’s sneakers like the Rantus Orlato carry the same bold spirit into everyday wear. I love this story because it proves a point close to my heart. Great style rarely comes from following rules too strictly. Sometimes, one unexpected choice defines everything that follows.
HOW TO STYLE THE DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ WATCH
Before I close, here are a few practical ideas you can apply to your own wardrobe.
First, choose one hero. In this look, the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz carries the story and the shirt carries the color. Everything else supports them. Add a bold jacket or patterned scarf on top, and the message becomes confusing.
Second, repeat colors in small doses. The green strap connects to the olive blocks in the shirt, while the blue sneakers pick up its brightest stripes. These echoes make a colorful outfit look intentional rather than accidental.
Third, keep jewelry to a minimum. A watch with a detailed dial needs space. I skipped bracelets and rings here, so nothing competes with the figures on the aventurine.
Fourth, mind your sleeves. Short sleeves show a watch freely, which suits summer perfectly. With long sleeves, a softer cuff lets the case slip out without a struggle.
Finally, match the level of quality across the whole look. A special watch deserves good fabrics and well-made shoes. Silk, a textured weave and exotic leather all tell the eye that you chose every piece with care.
DMITRY CHUGUNOV WIZARD OF OZ: FOLLOW YOUR OWN YELLOW BRICK ROAD
This outfit began with a childhood story and ended with a very adult lesson. Style, like a good book, works best when it has a heart.
The Ferragamo silk shirt brings color and a surprising link to Judy Garland. Meanwhile, the navy cargo trousers keep everything grounded. The Louboutin Rantus Orlato sneakers add shine and a touch of Parisian daring. Above all, the Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz gives the look its soul.
If you collect watches, I hope this post introduced you to an independent name worth following. If fashion is your passion, I hope it encourages you to wear color with more confidence. And if you simply enjoy beautiful things, remember that the best pieces always carry a story. As Dorothy learned, there is no place like home. For me, home is wherever imagination and craftsmanship meet.
Now it is your turn. Would you wear a fairytale on your wrist, and if so, which of the four heroes would you choose?
