My dear fashionistas, welcome to a new fashion story on the Mr.M blog. Some outfits begin with a jacket or a new pair of shoes. This one began with a color. I wanted something warm and soft for the last golden weeks of the season, so I reached for a peach Gucci silk shirt. It feels like late afternoon light and a slow Italian summer, and it instantly set the mood for everything else.

Next came a pale green check, a pair of crochet loafers and one small object that quietly changed the whole story. Today I will walk you through every piece. You will meet a Florentine house that started with luggage, a Milanese loafer named after an artists’ quarter and a watchmaker who removed the hands from his dials. Along the way, I will also explain why these pieces work so well together. If you have ever wondered about the secret of effortless Italian glamour, I believe it starts with one perfect Gucci silk shirt.

THE PEACH GUCCI SILK SHIRT: WHY SILK BELONGS IN A MAN’S WARDROBE

Silk has an image problem among men. Many of us still connect it with evening shirts, loud prints or something a little too theatrical. However, a good silk shirt in a solid color is one of the most useful pieces a man can own. It drapes beautifully, it breathes, and it moves when you move.

This Gucci silk shirt has a fluid, slightly matte surface with a fine crepe grain. You only notice the texture up close, and I love that kind of discreet luxury. Its shade sits somewhere between apricot and blush, so it warms the face without shouting.

Details make it unmistakably Gucci. The collar has long, sharp button-down points, a proportion with a clear 1970s flavor. On the shoulders, two neat epaulettes add a touch of military tailoring. Meanwhile, the pearly buttons catch the light, and the curved hem falls cleanly over the trousers.

I wear it untucked, with the top buttons open, because this fabric looks best when it can float. In fact, that is my first rule for any silk shirt: never fight the drape. Let it do the work, and the shirt will look relaxed and expensive at the same time. That ease is the first part of the secret.

HOW GUCCI BEGAN: THE FLORENTINE ROOTS OF A LUXURY ICON

Every time I wear Gucci, I think about a young man carrying suitcases. Before he founded one of the world’s best-known fashion houses, Guccio Gucci worked at the Savoy Hotel in London. There he watched wealthy travelers arrive with beautiful luggage, and he learned what real quality looked like.

After returning home, he trained at the Florentine leather goods firm Franzi. Then, in 1921, he opened his own shop on Via della Vigna Nuova in Florence. At first, the business focused on luggage and equestrian goods. That riding world still shapes the brand today. For example, the famous green-red-green Web stripe comes from the saddle girth, the strap that keeps a saddle in place.

Difficult times also pushed the house to invent. When leather became scarce in the 1930s, Gucci created a woven canvas with a diamond motif, known as Diamante. After the war, in 1947, artisans shaped bamboo into bag handles, and the Bamboo bag quickly became a classic. In the early 1950s, the house added the horsebit loafer, which many men still see as the perfect weekend shoe.

The 1950s and 1960s then turned the house into a symbol of jet-set glamour. Stars such as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn wore Gucci, and in 1966 the house created the Flora silk scarf for Grace Kelly. Italians still link that golden era to la dolce vita, a phrase made famous by Federico Fellini’s 1960 film La Dolce Vita.

I find this history useful, not only charming. It explains why Gucci so often mixes practicality with a little swagger. My silk shirt from Gucci does exactly that. It feels soft and easy, yet it carries plenty of character.

GUCCI TODAY: WHY A SILK SHIRT STILL SPEAKS THE HOUSE CODES

Fashion houses live in chapters, and Gucci has opened a new one. In March 2025, the house named Demna as its creative director, succeeding Sabato De Sarno. Before that, Demna had spent a decade as creative director of Balenciaga.

In September 2025, he introduced his vision through La Famiglia, a lookbook that reinterpreted the house codes through a cast of distinct personalities. His runway debut followed on February 27, 2026. Then, on September 25, 2026, during Milan Fashion Week, he presented his second runway collection, for Spring/Summer 2027. He even turned the venue into a Gucci boutique, complete with handbag shelves and jewelry cases.

I mention this because it confirms something I have always believed. Trends come and go, but Gucci keeps returning to its codes. Equestrian references, rich materials and a certain Italian confidence never really leave the building. A peach Gucci silk shirt with epaulettes fits that story perfectly. It feels current, and yet it would also look at home in a stylish wardrobe from decades ago.

GUCCI CHECK WOOL TROUSERS IN HERITAGE LIGHT GREEN

If the shirt is the melody, the trousers are the rhythm. These Gucci check wool trousers come in a shade called Heritage Light Green, and the name fits. The color reminds me of old country houses, riding jackets and pistachio gelato, all at once.

Look closely and the pattern reveals several layers. A tiny houndstooth ground sits under a larger overcheck in mint, sand and a fine line of peach. That peach thread is the reason this pairing works so well. It quietly links the trousers to the Gucci silk shirt, so the outfit looks planned without looking forced.

Marko Tadić leans on a stone wall, legs crossed, in Heritage Light Green check trousers and Brera crochet loafers

The cut is generous and straight, with a sharp crease and deep turn-ups at the hem. I like this silhouette for three reasons. First, it balances the fluid volume of the shirt. Second, it gives wool trousers a relaxed, almost summery attitude. Finally, the turn-ups add a little weight, so the fabric falls cleanly over the loafers.

Patterns like this belong to the family of the Glen Urquhart check. It takes its name from the Glenurquhart estate in Inverness-shire, Scotland, where the design dressed local estate workers in the 19th century. Later, the future King Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, adopted a version of it, and his grandson, the Duke of Windsor, made it famous around the world. That is why many people still call it the Prince of Wales check. Gucci lightens that serious British heritage with soft, sunny colors, and I find the result delightful.

HOW TO STYLE A GUCCI SILK SHIRT FOR EFFORTLESS ITALIAN GLAMOUR?

Effortless glamour still takes a little thought. Pastels, for example, can look too sweet on a man if you are not careful. The trick is to give them structure and texture. Here is how I approached this look.

First, I let the silk hang untucked. That keeps the mood relaxed and removes the need for a belt. Second, I paired a smooth fabric with a textured one. Silk against wool creates contrast, so neither piece looks flat.

Full-length outfit by Marko Tadić: peach Gucci silk shirt, light green check trousers and Brera loafers on cobblestones

Third, I kept accessories to a minimum. When your colors are soft, one strong accent does more than five small ones. In this case, that accent sits on my wrist, and you will hear much more about it shortly.

Finally, think about your skin tone. Peach flatters warmer complexions and looks especially good with the last traces of a summer tan. If your skin is very fair, choose a deeper apricot. For olive skin, a dustier peach will feel more natural.

One more tip for a grown-up wardrobe: buy pale colors only in noble fabrics. A cheap pastel shirt looks tired after a few washes. A Gucci silk shirt in the same color keeps its glow much longer, especially if you trust it to a good dry cleaner.

SILK, WOOL AND SUEDE: WHY TEXTURE MATTERS MORE THAN COLOR

Color gets most of the attention in menswear, but texture does most of the quiet work. This outfit is a small lesson in how three surfaces can talk to each other.

Silk comes first. It reflects light softly and moves with every step, so the upper half of the body feels light. Wool follows. The check adds a dry, woven surface that grounds the silk and gives the eye a pattern to explore. Suede closes the circle at the bottom. Its velvety nap absorbs light instead of reflecting it, which makes the feet look calm and solid.

Marko Tadić laughs with a hand in his hair, the green Dmitry Chugunov watch glowing against peach silk

Then there is the crochet panel on the loafers. It repeats the idea of a visible weave, just like the check, only in a coarser, handmade way. Even the watch strap joins in, because its croc-textured leather adds one more tactile note.

Here is the habit I recommend. When you plan a look, touch the fabrics before you judge the colors. If every piece feels the same under your fingers, the outfit will look flat in person. Pairing smooth silk with rougher partners solves that problem almost instantly.

FRATELLI ROSSETTI BRERA: A TASSEL LOAFER WITH AN ARTIST’S SOUL

Wide trousers need the right shoe, and a soft loafer tops my list. For this look I chose the Fratelli Rossetti Brera, a model with a story I never tire of telling.

Renzo Rossetti founded the company in 1953 in Parabiago, near Milan. In 1968 he introduced the Brera, a tasseled loafer named after Milan’s artists’ district. During the 1960s, painters, sculptors and writers gathered in Brera, and its free spirit inspired the shoe. According to the family, most Italian men of that era wore plain black or brown lace-ups. So a relaxed loafer with playful tassels felt like a small revolution.

The timing adds a lovely twist to today’s outfit. Gucci’s horsebit loafer had arrived in the early 1950s, so by the late 1960s two Italian houses were shaping the loafer as we know it. Even better, the Fratelli Rossetti archives note that in the 1970s Renzo worked alongside big names such as Armani, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, Ferragamo and Gucci itself.

Today the second generation, brothers Diego, Dario and Luca Rossetti, leads the family business. The Brera turned 50 in 2018, and the company celebrated its own 70th anniversary in 2023. Very few shoes stay relevant for more than half a century. This one does, because it never tries too hard.

FRATELLI ROSSETTI BRERA GREEN SIDE: HAND-CROCHETED AND SUSTAINABLE

Longtime readers will recognize this particular pair, because I keep coming back to it, from my Fratelli Rossetti summer elegance story in 2023 to my Brera loafers story in 2024. It belongs to Green Side, a project Fratelli Rossetti launched in 2021 to make its craft more sustainable. The idea was clear: use high-quality suede obtained through a circular economy approach.

From the Spring/Summer 2023 season, the Brera joined the project in a special version. Artisans crochet the vamp by hand, the suede upper comes from recycled materials, and the leather sole uses recycled leather. Inside, the lining uses natural bamboo fibers, while the removable insole is made entirely of PET fibers for breathability. On my pair, tobacco suede meets a sand-colored crochet panel with a scalloped edge, finished with two soft suede tassels.

In person, the crochet looks almost like woven straw, and it gives the shoe a relaxed, resort-like feel. Yet the shape stays elegant, with a slim toe and a neat low heel. I wear them without visible socks, which lets the turn-ups of the trousers breathe.

Fratelli Rossetti has a long relationship with sockless style, by the way. According to the brand, its Yacht loafer was the first moccasin created for wear without socks, thanks to an internal sponge. For me, these crochet loafers prove that sustainability does not have to look earnest. It can look beautiful, handmade and a little bit playful.

DMITRY CHUGUNOV: THE EMERALD ACCENT OF THIS OUTFIT

Now to the object that changed the whole story. Look at the close-ups in this post, and you will notice where the eye keeps landing. It goes straight to a glowing green disc on my wrist.

The watch is The Wizard of the Emerald City by Dmitry Chugunov (also spelled Dmitriy), an independent watch designer. Some collectors and dealers list it as The Wizard of Oz. I told its full story, from the movement to the award it won, in my Dmitry Chugunov Wizard of Oz review. Today I want to show you something different: how this small work of art behaves in a soft, warm outfit.

I chose the green strap on purpose. Its croc-textured leather repeats the light green of the Gucci check. At the same time, the peach cuff of the shirt frames the case like a soft mat around a small painting. The clothes set a calm, warm stage, and one small green dial adds the spark that makes you look twice.

A SOVIET FAIRY TALE ON THE DIAL

The watch takes its story from Alexander Volkov’s 1939 book The Wizard of the Emerald City, a free retelling of L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. In Volkov’s version, the heroine is Ellie, not Dorothy, and her little dog is Totoshka. By many accounts, his Oz became better known than Baum’s original in Russia, China and the former East Germany. For millions of children, the Emerald City is not a Hollywood memory. It is a bedtime story, with worn pages and unforgettable illustrations.

At the center of the dial stand the four heroes: Ellie, the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Lion. The jeweler and watchmaker Kirill Chernetsky made them as bas-reliefs in gold and silver, then refined and polished each figure by hand. The Tin Woodman’s axe, the Lion’s mane and the folds of Ellie’s dress each catch the light in a different way.

A STAR, A COMET AND NO HANDS

The first thing you notice is what is missing. There are no hands on this dial. Instead, a small star shows the hours, and a comet with a flowing tail shows the minutes. It takes a moment to adjust, but soon it becomes a small daily ritual. I glance down, find the star, follow the comet and smile.

Beneath the scene lies a disc of green aventurine. Flat inclusions of fuchsite, a chrome-bearing mica, make the stone shimmer like a night sky. The name comes from the Italian a ventura, meaning by chance, first given to a sparkling glass discovered by accident in Murano. My photos show how the mood changes with the angle: one frame glows deep emerald, while another turns almost midnight blue.

WHY AN ART WATCH SUITS A GUCCI SILK SHIRT

I usually prefer slim, discreet cases, and I rarely wear anything this expressive. Yet this piece never feels like a costume. The reason is balance. The watch is bold in content but calm in color, and green is one of the easiest colors to wear with soft tailoring. It pairs naturally with beige, brown, cream and, as you can see, peach.

There is also the question of rarity. The series is limited to 500 numbered pieces, and Chugunov openly refuses to raise production volumes. That attitude is exactly why independent watchmaking moves me, as I also wrote in my story about the Peacock Divine Craft tourbillon. My advice for anyone considering an art watch is short. Buy it for the story first. If the story moves you, you will wear it with confidence, and confidence is what makes any watch look right on the wrist.

WHERE TO WEAR A GUCCI SILK SHIRT AND HOW TO MAKE IT LAST?

A look like this shines in daylight. I would wear it to a long lunch, a gallery opening or a garden party. It also works beautifully for a daytime wedding when the invitation says smart casual. After sunset, simply add a cream or tobacco jacket, and the same shirt moves easily into dinner.

Silk also rewards a little care. Here are the habits that keep mine looking new:

  • Dry clean it, or follow the care label exactly.
  • Hang it on a wide, shaped hanger so the shoulders and epaulettes keep their form.
  • Steam out creases instead of pressing hard with a hot iron.
  • Apply cologne before dressing and let it dry, because perfume can mark silk.
  • Give it a day of rest between wears so the fibers can relax.

Treat it well, and a Gucci silk shirt will stay in your wardrobe for many seasons. That is the real meaning of investment dressing.

Marko Tadić laughs in profile, showing the fluid drape of a Gucci silk shirt and straight-cut check trousers

WHAT IS THE SECRET OF EFFORTLESS ITALIAN GLAMOUR?

After years of dressing for editorials and for everyday life, I believe it comes down to a few simple habits. Start with noble fabrics, such as silk. Let soft colors do the talking. Mix textures, and keep accessories to a minimum.

Some outfits are about power, and others are about pleasure. This one is clearly about pleasure. The Gucci silk shirt brings softness and a quiet sense of history. The Heritage Light Green check adds ease and a hint of British country charm. Meanwhile, the crochet Brera loafers from Fratelli Rossetti bring Milanese craft and a lighter footprint.

And then there is that small green world on my wrist. On it, a star and a comet keep time for four old friends on their way to the Emerald City. It is the kind of watch that makes people lean in, look closer and smile.

Smiling Marko Tadić against a wall with white shutters, an effortless Italian look by Gucci and Fratelli Rossetti

The last part of the secret is the most personal one. Build an outfit around the piece you love most, then let everything else support it quietly. Good clothes should frame a story, never compete with it. For me, that is la dolce vita in its purest form.

Thank you for reading, as always. Tell me in the comments which piece caught your eye first. I have a feeling I already know the answer. You can also reach me by email or through social networks, all listed on the CONTACT page.

Until the next fashion adventure on the Mr.M blog.

With Love,
Mr.M

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

The strongest element of this outfit is the proportion rather than the individual labels. Your Gucci shirt has enough fluidity to sit naturally over the waistband, while the straight wool trousers provide a clear vertical line. I particularly like the deep turn-ups because they give the trousers a convincing finish above the loafers. Many contemporary outfits rely on excessive contrast, whereas yours uses small changes in tone and texture. Would you consider keeping the same trousers and replacing the silk shirt with a fine-gauge cashmere polo for cooler weather? I suspect the check would still give the combination plenty of… Read more »

Read more »

I was pleased to see the Prince of Wales check discussed as more than a convenient pattern name. Its historical connection to Scottish country clothing gives the trousers an entirely different character. Gucci’s pale green interpretation is far less severe than the traditional grey versions I usually encounter. The small peach accent is particularly clever because it links two garments without making them match too obviously. Have you experimented with a dark burgundy knit alongside these trousers? I imagine the warmer colour could produce an appealing autumn variation. The generous cut also makes the fabric look more relaxed than it… Read more »

Artikkeli osoittaa hyvin, ettei persoonallisen kellon tarvitse rajoittua epämuodolliseen pukeutumiseen.

Hello Marko, your discussion of independent watchmaking raises an interesting question about what makes an object truly collectible. I find the artistic intention behind Chugunov’s watch more compelling than its limited production alone. The miniature figures create an emotional connection that a conventional dial rarely attempts. I also appreciate the distinction you make between buying a watch for its story and buying one merely for its exclusivity. Do you think an artistic dial becomes more meaningful to its owner over time? Personally, I have always found that unusual design details reveal something new after years of ownership. The green aventurine… Read more »

What I admire most about this ensemble is its refusal to treat mature menswear as a collection of strict rules. The peach shirt is adventurous without being loud. Its military-inspired details prevent the softness of the silk from becoming overly delicate. The wool trousers introduce another visual language, yet they never seem disconnected from the shirt. I also like the deliberate absence of a conventional belt. That decision allows the entire silhouette to remain uninterrupted. Your photographs and explanation make a persuasive case for dressing with confidence rather than relying on familiar colour combinations.

I have always been drawn to Italian shoes that sit somewhere between formal and casual dressing. The Brera Green Side loafers occupy that territory rather convincingly. Their tassels preserve a familiar shape, while the crochet panel gives them an entirely different personality. I was particularly interested in the information about the bamboo-fibre lining and removable PET-fibre insole. Would you consider these loafers appropriate for a long day involving both city walking and an evening restaurant? I would be interested in how the delicate-looking upper behaves with regular use. The tobacco suede is an excellent choice for someone who generally prefers… Read more »

The tiny sculptural details on the Chugunov dial deserve considerable attention. I was particularly taken by your description of the Lion’s mane and the Tin Woodman’s axe. These are the kinds of details that distinguish a miniature work of art from a merely decorative object. The aventurine background also seems exceptionally well suited to the Emerald City theme. What interests me is the relationship between storytelling and watchmaking precision. Even without conventional hands, the watch retains its purpose while asking the owner to engage with a different visual language. Your article captures that distinction without reducing the piece to a… Read more »

Read more »

Spodnie w jasną kratę dodają całości elegancji, a miękkie mokasyny odbierają jej nadmierną formalność. Cenię takie połączenia, ponieważ pozwalają nosić luksusowe ubrania również poza wyjątkowymi okazjami. Z przyjemnością przeczytałbym więcej tekstów łączących historię marek z praktyczną analizą stylizacji.

Your treatment of investment dressing is refreshingly practical. A beautiful fabric is only worthwhile if the garment remains attractive after repeated wear. I appreciated the advice about steaming silk gently, using a suitable hanger and applying fragrance before dressing. Those recommendations matter particularly for a shirt with prominent shoulder details. Would you use a garment bag when storing such a piece between seasons? I have become increasingly careful about protecting delicate clothing from unnecessary friction. The article also makes a sensible distinction between purchasing a striking garment and knowing how to care for it. That is a subject luxury fashion… Read more »

Read more »

There is something appealing about seeing a sponsored fashion story that still explains the reasoning behind each styling decision. The peach thread in the wool check is a particularly good example of attention to detail. It would have been easy to describe the two garments simply as complementary pastels. Instead, you identify the precise visual connection that makes the pairing coherent. The watch strap then introduces a related green tone without reproducing the trousers exactly. I find that kind of colour coordination more sophisticated than matching accessories mechanically. The completed outfit feels as though it developed from observation rather than… Read more »

Read more »

Read more »

I enjoyed the way you approached this outfit as a daytime proposition rather than automatically treating silk as eveningwear. There is a certain confidence in wearing a luxurious fabric to an ordinary lunch or gallery visit. The matte finish of the shirt makes that choice much easier to understand. I also think the soft check provides enough visual interest without requiring a jacket. Would you introduce a lightweight scarf for a cooler afternoon, or would that undermine the clean neckline? My preference would probably be to leave the collar open and let the shirt retain its movement. The combination has… Read more »

One of the most valuable observations in your article concerns the relationship between restraint and personality. The Chugunov watch is undeniably expressive, yet the clothes around it remain comparatively quiet. That contrast gives the watch room to be appreciated properly. I have seen too many outfits where a remarkable timepiece disappears among competing patterns and accessories. Have you considered pairing the same watch with a cream linen suit and a simple white shirt? Such an arrangement might allow the green aventurine to become even more prominent. I particularly admire your decision to echo the dial colour through the leather strap… Read more »
