My dear fashionistas, welcome to a new fashion story on the Mr.M blog. We start today’s fashion adventure with new friend of the Mr.M blog – Versace. I am sure that there is no person in the world who does not know the world of fashion, but this iconic Italian fashion house definitely has to be included in the knowledge category of the general information test. It is a brand that you simply cannot be indifferent to, especially because of its impressive creations that have conquered the very top of the world fashion scene for decades.
How did this iconic brand come about? Gianni Versace, now officially rebranded as Versace, is an Italian luxury fashion brand founded by Gianni Versace in 1978. This fashion company produces Italian ready-to-wear and accessories, as well as haute couture under its signature Atelier Versace brand line. Gianni Versace is a native of Calabria, a city located in the ancient ancient region of Magna Grecia (Great Greece). Interestingly, the Versace logo was inspired by Medusa, a figure from Greek mythology.
Back in 1972, Gianni Versace designed his first collections for the Callaghan, Genni and Complice brands. A few years later, in 1978 to be precise, a fashion line named “Gianni Versace Donna” was launched and opened its first boutique in the famous Via della Spiga street in Milan. Mr. Versace independently controlled much of the brand, from design to retail. In 1981, the house of Versace introduced its first perfume, Gianni Versace for women, while in 1982 the company expanded its range to include accessories, jewelry, home furnishings and porcelain. Mrs. Donatella Versace (Mr. Gianni’s sister) added the Young Versace and Versus lines in 1993, and from 1994, Mrs. Donatella became the co-designer of the Gianni Versace fashion line.
One of the most important turning points in the work of this fashion house is 1994, when the brand gained international fame with the famous black Versace dress of Elizabeth Hurley, which is called “that dress” in the media. Versace has designed for various musical artists, including performance costumes and album covers for Elton John in 1992 and clothing for Michael Jackson. Versace also designed clothes for Princess Diana of Wales (Lady Di) and Princess Caroline of Monaco.
After the assassination of Gianni Versace in 1997, his sister Donatella Versace, a former vice president, took over as creative director, and his older brother Santo Versace became CEO of the Versace fashion house. Donatella’s daughter Allegra Versace was left with a 50 percent stake in the company, which she took over on her eighteenth birthday. The next important milestone by which we will all remember this brand is the year 2000, when one creation, an interesting green Versace dress worn by Jennifer Lopez at the Grammy Awards, attracted a lot of media attention.
The dress was named the fifth most legendary dress of all time, and Elizabeth Hurley’s black Versace dress was named the most iconic dress of all time, according to a 2008 Daily Telegraph poll. Starting in 2014, a gradual sale of shares in the company began, until 2018, when the company was completely sold to the fashion conglomerate that owns the famous American brand Michael Kors. Mrs. Donatella Versace remained in the position of creative director.
In today’s fashion story, I will present you a special and unique winter jacket made of burgundy velvet. The material has an optical illusion of crumpled velvet that adds refinement and elegance. Burgundy color always occupies a special place in the fashion world and it can be said that this color is timeless and never goes out of fashion.

Hi Marko, I’m glad to see your smile and your new fashion story after a long time! You look fantastic, burgundy is definitely a color you should wear more often and Versace is a really special brand. You are dear to me, as if you were my son, and I always enjoy reading your fashion stories and travelogues. Say hello to mom and I hope the truth will come out soon.
The jacket is beautiful! I love burgundy color so much and velvet as well. Many say that velvet is an ungrateful material to wear and maintain, but I find it very elegant. I can’t wait to read your new fashion stories! Do you perhaps know when you will start your travelogues? I really miss your travelogues, but I understand your current family situation and know that your mother needed you.
The jacket and shoes are definitely my favorites! I love the burgundy color and on the other hand I am a big fan of the Christian Louboutin brand and I must say that I am impressed with your shoe collection. You’re doing a great job and you’ve really become a great fashion expert over time.
