Today I am extremely pleased to share with you one of the most exciting hotel reviews I have ever written, the story of the Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong>, a hotel that the Japanese are proud to call the diamond of the culinary capital of the Land of the Rising Sun. There is something magical about when the elevator doors open on the fortieth floor and a breathtaking panorama of the city unfolds before you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is precisely the experience provided by Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong>, a hotel that rightly bears the epithet “Your address in heaven”. Located in the west tower of the Festival City complex on Nakanoshima Island, this hotel is the epitome of modern Japanese luxury: spacious, elegant and with a view that makes you stop and simply observe the city below. When I first stepped out of the elevator and saw the three-story glass-walled lobby framing Osaka like a work of art, I knew I was in for an unforgettable travel experience.<\/p>\n\n\n

Today, that tradition lives on through the countless restaurants, street food and culinary heritage that make Osaka a must-see destination for any foodie. And Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong> fits perfectly into that story, a hotel that celebrates the city in which it is located, offering guests an authentic experience high above the bustling metropolis. With four world-class restaurants, all located on the fortieth floor with views that span the entire city, culinary here rises to new heights, literally and figuratively.<\/p>\n\n\n

My arrival in Osaka was part of a multi-week trip around Asia, where I explored the Asian culture of the pearls of Asia that define modern hospitality. After Tokyo and Kyoto, Osaka was a logical choice, a city known for its energy, openness and love of food. Conrad Osaka stood out as an obvious choice for accommodation, not only because of its reputation, but also because of its unique location on the cultural island of Nakanoshima, far from the tourist crowds, yet perfectly connected to all parts of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nakanoshima: Island of culture and art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong> is located on the island of Nakanoshima, a narrow strip of land between the Dojima and Tosabori rivers, right in the heart of the city. This three-kilometer-long island has a fascinating history dating back to the seventeenth century, when the merchant Yodoya Joan began its development. Since then, Nakanoshima has become the economic center of the city, with warehouses of feudal lords who stored rice and other products here. Precisely because of this role as a central warehouse for the entire nation, Osaka was nicknamed the nation’s kitchen, a name it proudly bears to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n

Today, Nakanoshima is known as the cultural district of Osaka, home to numerous museums, concert halls and historical buildings that bear witness to the city’s rich past. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel are the National Museum of Art with its impressive collection of contemporary art, the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, which houses one of the most important collections of Asian ceramics in the world, as well as the newly opened Nakanoshima Art Museum, which opened its doors in 2022 with a collection of over 6,600 works. The impressive Osaka City Public Hall, a Neo-Renaissance building from 1918, has been designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan and is an architectural gem that dominates the eastern part of the island.<\/p>\n\n\n

Nakanoshima Park, Osaka’s first public park established in 1891, offers a peaceful oasis with a famous rose garden that has over four thousand plants of different varieties. In spring and autumn, when the roses are in full bloom, the park becomes a favorite destination for local residents and tourists. A walk through the park in the early morning hours, before the city fully comes to life, offers moments of peace that are rare in a large Japanese metropolis. The Nakanoshima Children’s Library, designed by the famous architect Tadao Ando, \u200b\u200bis another modern attraction that attracts visitors of all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Festival Tower West, the skyscraper that houses the Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong>, is part of the Festival City complex, which includes the two tallest twin towers in Japan. In addition to the hotel, the building is home to the Kosetsu Museum of Art with its collection of Japanese and East Asian art, the famous Festival Hall concert hall where legendary conductors such as Herbert von Karajan and Leonard Bernstein performed, as well as numerous shops and restaurants. What I especially appreciate about this location is the direct connection to Higobashi and Watanabebashi subway stations, which allows quick access to all parts of the city without having to go outside. The vibrant Umeda district can be reached on foot in about fifteen minutes, while the neon lights of Dotonbori are just a few subway stops away.<\/p>\n\n\n

The history of the Conrad Osaka hotel: The birth of an address in the sky<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong> officially opened its doors on June 9, 2017, becoming the second Conrad hotel in Japan after Tokyo. The hotel occupies the 33rd to 40th floors of Nakanoshima Festival Tower West, 200 meters above street level. With its 164 rooms and suites, all of which are over 50 square meters, it represents the first destination of the Conrad brand in western Japan and immediately attracted the attention of both business travelers and tourists looking for luxury accommodation with an unforgettable travel experience and incredible views. Since opening, the hotel has been consistently ranked as one of the best in Osaka, often ranking first among over 470 hotels in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concept of the hotel is based on the idea of \u200b\u200b”Your Address in the Sky”, which perfectly describes the experience of staying. The design of the space is inspired by natural phenomena such as wind, light and sky, and the collection of 389 works of art distributed throughout the hotel deserves special attention.<\/p>\n\n\n

Among the most striking works are the molecular white sculptures by Kyoto-based artist Kohei Nawa that dominate the lobby, reminiscent of clouds or bubbles floating in space. A shimmering curtain of crystal fragments by Matsuo Takahiro in the Sky Bar & Lounge area on the fortieth floor catches the light and creates a play of reflections that changes throughout the day. Walking through the hotel, you feel as if you are in a contemporary gallery, where every corner hides a new artistic surprise, from video installations at the entrance to abstract sculptures in the corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is interesting is that the hotel hosted a dinner for heads of state during the G20 summit in 2017, which speaks to the level of service and quality it offers. The tasting menu that was then served to presidents and prime ministers can still be tasted at the Kura restaurant today, providing a unique opportunity to experience the same culinary excellence as world leaders. That fact particularly intrigued me when I was staying at this hotel, how often do you have the opportunity to eat the same food as the leaders of the most powerful countries in the world?<\/p>\n\n\n

Junior King Corner Suite: My home among the clouds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For my stay in Osaka, I chose the Junior King Corner Suite, a spacious 66 square meter suite located at the corner of the building, which means panoramic views through two floor-to-ceiling walls. The first impression when I entered the room was just that endless horizon, the city of Osaka spread out before me like a living model, with the river winding between the skyscrapers and the mountains in the distance. In the evening, when the city lights come on, the view becomes even more impressive, turning the room into a private vantage point over the city that never sleeps.<\/p>\n\n\n

The large king size bed with luxurious 300 thread count linen provides the perfect rest after a day exploring the city, while next to it is a Bose bluetooth speaker for those who like to wake up to their favorite music. I especially liked the digital tablet next to the bed that controls the lighting, curtains, climate and other room functions, technology that makes the stay even more comfortable and that works perfectly without the need for instructions.<\/p>\n\n\n

The workspace is thoughtfully designed for business travelers, with an ergonomic chair and table that extends to the window, allowing work to be done with an inspiring view. The flat screen TV has smart features and the ability to connect to Netflix, YouTube and other platforms via an HDMI cable or wirelessly, which is convenient for relaxing in the evening with your favorite series. The minibar is well stocked, with a Nespresso machine and a milk frother for your morning coffee, while the drawer holds a variety of liqueurs for those who prefer something stronger.<\/p>\n\n\n

The bathroom deserves special attention and was one of the most impressive I have experienced in hotels. Spacious, with double sinks, a separate shower with a rain shower head and an impressive round bathtub that can accommodate two people, it provides a real spa experience in the privacy of the room. When it is filled with hot water and you look out the window at the evening city, you feel like you are floating among the clouds. The cosmetics are from the prestigious brand Byredo, whose Mojave Ghost collection with notes of magnolia and sandalwood is a standard in all Conrad hotels around the world, a scent that lingers in the memory long after returning home. Of course, the toilet is equipped with a Toto Washlet system with wall controls and a heated seat, which is an indispensable element of Japanese hospitality. Hair dryer? Dyson, of course, is not nailed to the wall, which is refreshing and practical.<\/p>\n\n\n

The wardrobe is spacious, with enough space for all my belongings, including an ironing board and a laptop-friendly safe. One endearing tradition of the Conrad Hotel is the teddy bear and rubber duck that you can take home as souvenirs, each hotel has its own unique versions, so frequent travelers can collect a whole collection. Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong> has a transparent duck with a golden beak that now graces my collection. An additional detail I appreciated was the turndown service which included comfortable pajamas, hot water for chamomile tea and rice crackers for an evening snack, it’s the small gestures that make a big difference in the world of hospitality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conrad Osaka: Culinary empire on the fortieth floor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All of Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong>‘s restaurants and bars are located on the fortieth floor, offering spectacular views to accompany every meal. In a city that is known as the nation’s kitchen, the hotel’s gastronomic offer must be at an exceptional level, and believe me, it is. With four different restaurants that cover the spectrum from Japanese tradition to contemporary international cuisine, you can spend your entire stay here without leaving the hotel when it comes to food and never get full.<\/p>\n\n\n

The hotel’s main restaurant, Atmos Dining<\/a><\/strong>, offers a brasserie style with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare the specialties before your eyes. Breakfast was one of the best I had in Japan: a rich buffet with local specialties such as homemade tofu, takoyaki (octopus balls, a specialty of Osaka), okonomiyaki pancakes, but also western classics for those who prefer familiar tastes. I especially enjoyed the eggs benedict with Japanese dressing, a creative fusion that perfectly illustrates the hotel’s approach to cuisine, and the smoothie bar where you can create your own combination of fresh fruits and vegetables. For lunch and dinner, Atmos offers Italian specialties prepared in the open kitchen, along with a bakery with homemade bread and cakes that are so good I took them to the room for later.<\/p>\n\n\n

If you want a real Japanese culinary experience, Kura<\/a><\/strong> is the right address. This intimate restaurant provides a theatrical teppanyaki and sushi experience 180 meters above the city, with three teppanyaki stations and a sushi bar. I sat down at the sushi bar and indulged in the omakase menu, an experience that I not only recommend but consider a must for anyone visiting this hotel. The chef prepares each bite in front of you, explaining the origin of the fish, the preparation technique and how to enjoy each piece to the maximum. Premium wagyu beef on the teppanyaki grill melts in your mouth, while seasonal sashimi refreshes the palate between courses. There is also a private room for those who want a more exclusive experience, ideal for business dinners or special occasions. Interestingly, the same tasting menu that world leaders enjoyed during the G20 summit is served here, an opportunity I couldn’t miss.<\/p>\n\n\n

For seafood lovers, C Grill<\/a><\/strong> is a paradise. Right at the entrance you are greeted by an impressive bar with fresh shellfish and crustaceans from lobster and oysters to Alaskan king crab, all fresh and ready to be prepared to your liking. The restaurant advertises itself as the first crab restaurant in Osaka and the quality certainly lives up to that claim. The atmosphere is elegant but relaxed, with a view of the night panorama of the city that makes every dinner special. I especially recommend the tasting menu with paired wines, the hotel’s sommelier has an outstanding selection that perfectly accompanies each plate.<\/p>\n\n\n

40 SKY BAR & LOUNGE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For a pre- or post-evening cocktail, 40 Sky Bar & Lounge<\/a><\/strong> is the ideal place. Located in the lobby on the fortieth floor, it offers unobstructed views of the city and river through panoramic windows. The ambience is sophisticated but relaxed, with comfortable armchairs and soft music playing in the background. I especially liked the signature Takoyaki in the Sky cocktail, a combination of gin, vermouth, blue curacao liqueur, lemon and egg white, inspired by the famous Osaka specialty. Afternoon tea is also a popular choice, with delicate sweets and soft drinks accompanied by live music on weekends. Note: For non-hotel guests, there is a \u00a51,600 entrance fee to the bar, which speaks to the popularity of this area among locals.<\/p>\n\n\n

The Conrad Spa is located on the 38th floor and offers total relaxation with city views. The spa program combines traditional Japanese techniques with modern European methods, offering treatments such as yuzu baths, sake treatments and massages with acupressure techniques. Four private treatment rooms provide an intimate atmosphere for total relaxation, while the interior in white stones and natural materials creates a sense of Zen tranquility. I recommend the Japanese Seasonal Ceremony treatment which combines a body scrub, massage and facial, the perfect way to recover from a long flight or a busy day exploring the city.<\/p>\n\n\n

The 20-meter pool on the same floor offers spectacular views through floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Swimming along the Osaka skyline is an experience that is hard to describe in words, especially at night when the city turns into a sea of \u200b\u200blights and you feel like you are swimming among the stars. The pool staff is extremely attentive, as soon as you choose a lounger, they cover it with a towel and bring bottled water. The changing rooms are separated by gender and each has its own onsen-style bathing with a hot and cold pool, as well as a sauna and steam room. In true Japanese spirit, you enter here without a bathing suit, just a small towel, an experience that may be unusual for Westerners, but incredibly liberating when you relax. The gym is equipped with the latest Technogym equipment and is available 24 hours a day, while the pool and spa are open from 6am to 10pm.<\/p>\n\n\n

What sets Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong> apart from many luxury hotels is the level of personalized service that achieves the Japanese ideal of omotenashi, hospitality that anticipates a guest’s needs before they are expressed. The hotel has a team of curators who can create customized itineraries to explore Osaka, from hidden restaurants to cultural attractions that tourists don’t usually visit. The front desk staff speak excellent English, which makes communication easy, and their attention to detail impresses at every turn. When I mentioned that I was celebrating my birthday during my stay, a greeting card and a small gift awaited me in my room – a gesture I did not expect but which made my stay even more special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Executive Lounge on the 39th floor is available to guests in premium rooms and suites, offering breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails with canap\u00e9s. The space is elegant with panoramic windows offering a view of the city, but it can be full at peak times, which is perhaps the only minor complaint, the lounge is obviously very popular. Beer, wine and a good selection of hot and cold snacks are available in the evening from 18:00 to 20:00. Private check-in in the lounge area saves time and provides a more exclusive arrival experience, without waiting in line with other guests.<\/p>\n\n\n

Osaka Castle, the most recognizable landmark, is only three kilometers from the hotel and is a must-see for every visitor. Originally built in 1583 under Toyotomi Hideyoshi, this impressive castle has undergone numerous reconstructions, and today’s concrete replica dates from 1931 and survived the bombings of World War II. The interior of the castle has been turned into a museum that depicts the history of Osaka and the castle itself, while the observation deck at the top offers a panoramic view of the city. The park around the castle is ideal for a walk, especially in spring when over six hundred cherry trees bloom and the castle becomes one of the most popular locations for hanami, the traditional viewing of cherry blossoms.<\/p>\n\n\n

Dotonbori, the famous entertainment and food district, is just a few subway stops away and is the heart of Osaka’s nightlife. Neon lights, giant restaurant signs and the famous Glico Man, a running athlete who has dominated the Ebisubashi Bridge since 1935, make this street a must-see for anyone visiting Osaka. Here you must try takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (a savory pancake with various toppings) and ramen at one of the countless restaurants that are open late into the night. The narrow streets around the main street hide hundreds of small bars and restaurants, some of which seat only five to six guests, intimate experiences that are the essence of Japanese drinking and dining culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kuromon Market, known as the kitchen of Osaka, offers fresh fish and seafood, wagyu skewers and Japanese sweets. Open since 1902, this market offers an authentic experience of the local gastronomic culture and is an ideal place for breakfast or an early lunch. For view lovers, the Umeda Sky Building with its floating terrace at a height of 173 meters offers a breathtaking panorama of the city, especially at sunset. Universal Studios Japan is perfect for families and theme park fans alike, with Super Nintendo World and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attractions attracting visitors from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osaka: Practical information and Tips<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Conrad Osaka<\/a><\/strong> Hotel is easiest to get to by taxi from Shin-Osaka Station (about 10 minutes’ drive and 2,200 yen) or from Kansai International Airport (about 45 minutes’ drive and about 20,000 yen by taxi). Alternatively, the hotel is directly connected to Higobashi Station on the Yotsubashi Subway Line, allowing access to the rest of the city in just a five-minute walk through an underground passage, handy when it’s raining or too hot. You can walk from JR Osaka Station in about fifteen minutes or take one stop on the subway. If you are coming by Shinkansen from Tokyo, the journey takes about two and a half hours, and the hotel is easily accessible from Shin-Osaka Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Something to keep in mind, the area around the hotel is quieter than the central districts like Umeda or Namba, especially in the evening. This may be an advantage for those looking for tranquility after a day of exploring, but if you prefer accommodation in the middle of the hustle and bustle, you may want to consider another location. Personally, I find that quietness to be part of the charm, you come back to the hotel as a peaceful oasis above the city, away from the tourist crowds and yet only minutes away from everything Osaka has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n
