Since the Bratislava travelogue won your hearts, I brought a special gift on my hand from that trip. The Biatec Fusion 03, a black automatic watch, has arrived from Slovakia, a country we rarely associate with watchmaking. That’s exactly why his story deserves a whole post.
Below I take you through the story of a Celtic coin that is more than two thousand years old. You will find out how a small workshop from the Slovak town of Zvolen reached the top Swiss mechanisms. I’ve been writing about clothing for years, but I see watches as a separate world. A suit or a shirt speaks of taste, while a watch speaks of values. A mechanical watch does not require a battery or display. He lives on springs, gears, and the human skill that put them together.
A real man rarely wears many accessories. That’s why a single item on the wrist carries a great responsibility. It must last, tell a story and stand behind its origins. The Biatec Fusion 03 fulfills all three conditions, while coming from a country without a long watchmaking tradition.
That fact attracted me the most. Switzerland, Germany and Japan have maintained this craft for generations. However, real passion is sometimes born exactly where no one expects it. Slovakia is a small country in the heart of Europe, known for mountains, castles and hardworking hands. Now he is slowly printing his first watchmaking pages.
My readers know that I love discovering smaller, independent houses. Big names have their place, but small names have soul. With them, each copy passes through the hands of people who know it by name and number. This is exactly the kind of attitude I feel when I look at my black Biatec Fusion 03.
There is also a personal reason. The Balkans and Central Europe share similar destinies and similar dreams. When a small Slavic country creates a serious watch, it really makes me happy. I feel like I’m wearing a piece of our shared European story on my wrist.
WHY BIATEC BELIEVES A MECHANICAL WATCH IS BETTER THAN A SMARTWATCH?
Before we dive into history, I owe you a little credit. I have never accepted smart watches, no matter how useful they are. Their screen is already causing problems after two or three years, and with it every value. A mechanical watch, on the contrary, with regular care lasts an entire human lifetime.
Slovak watchmakers put this thought at the very foundation of their work. Their vision speaks of a return to the roots and of objects that outlive their owners. For them, a watch is seen as an heirloom, not as a consumable. A son who inherits his father’s watch does not get metal, but a written story of a life.
Such thinking sounds familiar and close to me. On this blog, I’ve been advocating investing in lasting values instead of chasing fleeting ones for years. A quality shirt, good shoes and a serious watch make every man’s personal investment in a better version of himself. They do not lose value with the new season, because it has nothing to do with it.
There is also a deeper, almost philosophical layer to this story. A mechanical watch measures time with the force of a spring that you specify yourself. Each beat is a reminder that time is passing and deserves attention. The screen only shows you the time, while the mechanics make it tangible. That difference seems small, but it changes the attitude towards each day.
That’s why the spring is beating on my wrist this summer, not the battery. I believe that by the end of this text you will understand every reason for such a decision.
THE STORY OF BIATEC: A NAME FORGED MORE THAN 2,000 YEARS AGO
The story of the name Biatec begins long before the first hour. It takes us to the first century BC, to the area of today’s Bratislava. At that time, the Celtic tribe of Boyi lived there, skilled blacksmiths and traders. They minted large silver coins that today are among the most beautiful finds of that era in Europe.
Many of those coins had the inscription “Biatec”. Historians believe that it was most likely the name of a ruler, perhaps a king depicted as a horseman. Over time, the same word became the name of the coin itself. Interestingly, the motif from this coin was later found on the Slovakian five-crown coin.
The founders of the watchmaking house chose this name with a clear intention. They wanted a strong connection between their work and the heritage of their own country. I especially liked their explanation. Coinage and watchmaking share the same metal language. Both crafts require engraving, printing and the patience of unhurried hands.
Every time I look at the dial, I’m reminded of that connection. There is a small coat of arms on it, and the inscription “Made in Slovakia” runs along the edge of the glass. Few watchmaking houses can boast such unusual origins. For me, as a man from the Balkans, that decision has a special weight. Our climates often forget how much history they carry. This tiny house shows how heritage is transformed into something tangible and beautiful.
BIATEC: INSIDE THE WATCHMAKING ATELIER IN THE HEART OF SLOVAKIA
Behind every good name stands a man of flesh and blood. At the Biatec watchmaking house, it is Peter Kožar, a man who has spent years in the world of watch sales. During that work, he offered his own ideas to well-known houses, but none of them showed interest. Many would give up there. However, he made a bolder decision.
In 2016, he registered his own name and went his own way. He was joined by Miloš Jakubec, a gifted designer and co-founder of the house. A third of the team consists of chief watchmaker Vladimir Wagner, while Peter’s wife Janka takes care of customers. Therefore, it is a real family workshop, not a large plant.
The headquarters of the house is located in Zvolen, a small town in the heart of Slovakia. There, each watch is assembled, checked and packed by hand. A small number of copies are produced every year, because no one is chasing big numbers here. The goal is different and, in my opinion, much fairer.
The house wants the average Slovak customer to be able to afford their watch for one monthly salary. That’s why they sell mostly directly, through their own network, without expensive intermediaries. They show confidence in their own work in the most tangible way. All their watches are guaranteed for a full five years, at no extra cost. Such a decision speaks louder than any advertisement. A small workshop that stands behind its product deserves the attention of every serious watch lover.
THE MEANING BEHIND THE BIATEC LOGO: DOUBLE CROSS, CELTIC HERITAGE AND SLOVAK IDENTITY
Every watchmaking house has its own mark, but rarely is it created this personally. Peter first commissioned proposals from a graphics specialist. None of them touched him, because no one outside understood the depth of his idea. That’s why he ended up drawing the sign of his house himself.
The solution brought two worlds together. The basis is the Slovak double cross, a symbol that every Slovak carries in his heart. It is joined by the lines of the Celtic cross, as a gift to the people who minted the first Biatec coins. An original, strong and easily recognizable coat of arms was created. Today it adorns the dials, crowns and covers of all their watches.
The motto of the house goes with the coat of arms: “In search of perfection”. I admit that that sentence bought me with its sincerity. They openly say that perfection may never arrive. However, each new series must approach that goal at least one step closer.
The love for details can also be seen in a wonderful collaboration. The mint in the city of Kremnica has been working without interruption for almost seven hundred years and is among the oldest in the world. It is she who mints small coins with a horseman, hidden under the lid, for some of their models. The past and the present thus touch in the same case.
Such an approach reminds me why I like smaller European workshops. They sell not only an object, but also a part of their own identity.
BIATEC FUSION COLLECTION: A TRIBUTE TO THE GOLDEN AGE OF INTEGRATED BRACELET WATCHES
To understand the watch that adorns my wrist today, we have to go back to the seventies of the last century. At that time, Swiss industry was going through the most difficult crisis in its history. Cheap quartz watches flooded the world, and mechanics struggled for bare survival. The answer came from the pen of a genius named Gerald Genta.
He designed the Royal Oak for Audemars Piguet in 1972. It was the first luxury sports watch made of steel, with a bracelet that naturally grows out of the case. Four years later, the same man created the famous Nautilus for Patek Philippe. Those two watches saved mechanics and gave birth to a whole new breed: the watch with an integrated bracelet.
Biatec approaches its Fusion collection precisely as a devotee of that golden age. The name itself reveals a double meaning. On the one hand, the bracelet and the case merge into one continuous unit. On the other hand, the collection combines the spirit of the most beautiful watches of this kind into its own, harmonious form.
Why is this type of watch so suitable for the modern man? The answer lies in his rare versatility. The same watch accompanies a suit at a business meeting and a linen shirt on a summer trip. There’s no need for a closet full of watches when one covers all occasions.
The Fusion collection currently has three models, marked with numbers: Fusion 01 – silver version, Fusion 02 – Rosegold version and Fusion 03 – full black version. My choice fell on the third model, the all-black edition. Now the most important part of this story follows about him.
BIATEC FUSION 03: HOW BLACK DLC TREATMENT REDEFINES MODERN WATCH DESIGN
I remember the first encounter with the Biatec Fusion 03 watch for one feeling: surprise. I expected an ordinary black watch, and I received an object of unusual depth. The 316L stainless steel case wears a black DLC coating. Behind that abbreviation hides a diamond-like layer of carbon, extremely hard and scratch-resistant.
Thanks to this treatment, black is not just a color here. It has depth, silky shine and a serious protective role. Brushed surfaces alternate with polished edges, so the watch catches the light in dozens of ways. In my photos you will also notice the bluish reflections on the glass. They are created by a double anti-glare layer on the sapphire crystal, a sign of serious craftsmanship.
The measurements are, for my taste, hit perfectly. The case is 39 millimeters wide and only nine millimeters thick. The distance between the horns is 47.4 millimeters, so the watch fits nicely even on a thinner wrist. Water resistance of one hundred meters allows a carefree summer, from showering to swimming.
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT BIATEC FUSION 03 DIAL
The dial deserves special attention. High-gloss black lacquer carries a three-dimensional crest and brushed indexes with polished edges. The indexes and hands are coated with black gold, so the whole scene seems rich without a hint of aggressiveness. The Super-LumiNova BGW9 mass glows at night with a cool bluish tone.
Even the rosary did not go unnoticed. It is large, comfortable under the fingers and crowned with the coat of arms of the house. On the side, it is protected by a discreet protector, woven into the very line of the case. Winding the watch thus becomes a small morning ritual, rather than a petty struggle with metal.
If you turn the watch over, you will see the mechanism at work through the transparent sapphire cover. The golden rotor with the house coat of arms spins calmly as the watch lives its life. I never get tired of that sight. He reminds me that I am not carrying a screen on my hand, but a small machine with a soul.
BIATEC FUSION 03: THE SWISS HEART BEATING WITH A SELLITA SW300 MOVEMENT
The Biatec watchmaking house from Zvolen has never hidden the origin of its mechanisms. This watch is powered by the Swiss automatic Sellita SW300 caliber in the highest, TOP manufacturing class. For the numbers buffs, here are the highlights. The mechanism operates at four hertz, or 28,800 semi-beats per hour.
Such a speed gives the seconds hand that nice, smooth stroke. The power reserve is about 56 hours, so the watch can easily survive the whole weekend out of hand. Twenty-five ruby bearings reduce friction, while the Incabloc system protects the heart of the watch from impacts.
Why is the choice of this caliber a smart move? The Sellita SW300 is among the slimmest Swiss automatic movements widely available to independent houses. It is to him that this model owes its slimness of nine millimeters. The slim watch slides under the shirt cuff without snagging, which any suit wearer knows to appreciate.
The TOP class also brings a finer stroke adjustment in several positions. In other words, the watch measures time more accurately than cheaper versions of the same caliber. Decoration is also not forgotten. Perlage patterns cover the bridges, blue screws add color, and a gold-plated rotor crowns the whole.
The price of the whole package is 1,890 euros. For a watch with a mechanism like this, sapphire on both sides and a five-year warranty, I consider it more than fair. Big Swiss names for similar content are asking for many times deeper pockets.
BIATEC FUSION 03 HANDS-ON REVIEW: HOW DOES IT FEEL ON THE WRIST?
Theoretical measurements are one thing, but the life of the watch on the owner’s wrist is something completely different. I have been wearing this watch for some time now and I can share my honest impressions. The first thing that is felt is the balance. The bracelet and case form a single unit, so the weight is distributed evenly over the wrist.
The butterfly clasp hides another commendable detail. The fine adjustment system extends the bracelet up to 4.4 millimeters in total. In summer, when the wrist swells from the heat, that little thing becomes a real asset. Belgrade July can be merciless, but my wrist remains calm.
Black color on bright summer clothes looks unexpectedly good. She acts like a period at the end of a sentence, calm and determined. With a white, drape, brown and beige background, the watch becomes the only dark accent of the whole picture. The viewer’s eye naturally falls on him, as the photos in this post clearly show.
At night, the story gets a new chapter. The bluish glow of the index seems almost mysterious, like stars in the summer sky. During the day, the polished edges of the indices catch the sun and return it in tiny flashes.
After all these weeks, the conclusion is simple. Biatec Fusion 03 is not a watch that is attacked on the wrist, but it harmonises with the owner and emphasises the temperament of the person who wears it. Such objects remain in the heart for the longest time, because their beauty grows with each new day.

BARENA VENEZIA: FROM THE VENICE LAGOON TO TIMELESS ITALIAN STYLE
Now let’s move on to the first piece of clothing in today’s fashion story. The white Maridola Tellino shirt comes from the house of Barena Venezia, one of my favorite Italian stories. Its history begins back in 1961, when the young Venetian Sandro Zara entered the world of textiles.
Mr. Zara worked as a representative of a textile company, but his curiosity led him further away from work. He visited the abandoned woolen workshops in the Venetian lagoon. In their dusty closets, he found old patterns and sewing notebooks. That forgotten knowledge became the foundation of future collections.
Officially, the house was born in 1993, when Massimo Pigozzo joined Zara as chief designer. Later, Sandro’s daughter Francesca joined the family business, taking over the female line. So here we have a family story, just like with Slovakian watchmakers. Apparently, such houses find me on their own.
The name itself carries the soul of the climate. Barena is the name for the grassy islands of the lagoon, the land that emerges from the water and sinks again. On the coat of arms of the house sails a sanpierota, a flat boat of Venetian fishermen and hunters. The whole philosophy starts from the fabric, and only then from the cut. Workshops in Veneto still weave according to samples from old archives.
My shirt is made of pure linen, light as breath. The classic collar and regular fit make it suitable for the city, dinner or a walk along the coast. The rolled up sleeves reveal the wrist and, of course, the protagonist of this story. Flax creases, but that’s where its charm lies. Perfectly ironed linen looks forced, while naturally crumpled linen breathes fully.
BARENA VENEZIA BEIGE TROUSERS: THE SUMMER ESSENTIAL FOR TIMELESS ITALIAN STYLE
The white shirt was accompanied by beige pants from the same Venetian house. I will not spend many words about them, because their role is silence. The best wardrobe pieces often do just that: they support the whole without standing out.
The fit is regular, with a leg that tapers and ends above the ankle. Such length has double value in summer. First, an ankle in the air means a fresher step through the hot city. Second, the cropped leg lets the sneakers breathe and show off their line.
The fabric is light, with a fine melange reminiscent of the finest summer wools. In bright sunlight, it looks almost silvery, while in the shade it leans towards a warm beige shade. That play of light gives depth to an otherwise calm whole.
Beige and white form the basics that every modern man should have in his wardrobe. You can add almost any color to such a base or, like me today, just one black accent. Simplicity never goes out of fashion, because it is not fashion. It is an attitude.
LANVIN BUMPER: THE FRENCH SIGNATURE OF SUMMER ELEGANCE
The step of this story is carried by white leather Bumpr sneakers from the house of Lanvin. I already wrote about this Parisian name on the blog, but its history deserves a brief reminder. Lanvin is the oldest French fashion house that has been working without interruption since 1889.
It was founded by Jeanne Lanvin, a young milliner with an extraordinary gift. First, she dressed her own daughter Margarita, her greatest love and muse. Classy Parisian women soon wanted the same dresses for their daughters, and then for themselves. Already in 1909, Jeanne entered the official circle of Parisian tailoring houses.
For men, one year is particularly important: 1926. That’s when Lanvin, the first among the Parisian houses, opened a tailor-made line for the male clientele. So, when I put on their sneakers today, I wear the signature of the house that opened the door to men’s elegance a hundred years ago.
The Bumpr model draws inspiration from the racing shoes of the last century. Its trademark is the reinforcement on the heel, a small bulge that gives it its name. My pair is finished in full ivory leather, with gold branding on the tongue. Leather acquires a patina over time and follows the foot more faithfully than any canvas.
White sneakers with pants with a falta are no longer a surprise. On the contrary, that connection has become a sign of a man who wears elegance relaxedly, without rigidity.
HOW I CREATED THIS SUMMER LOOK: TIPS FOR MEN’S URBAN STYLE
Now let me share with you a few handy tips and tricks. Outfits like this seem simple, but simplicity always calls for thought. My first rule is: light base, one dark accent. A white shirt and beige pants form the canvas, while a black watch becomes his signature.
The second rule concerns the material. In the summer, I choose only natural fibers, because the skin has to breathe. Linen cools the body, the light fabric of the pants follows the step, and the leather on the foot absorbs every movement. Artificial fibers become a punishment in this heat, no matter how nice they look.
I call the third rule the one hero rule. Each combination can only have one star, and everything else is an accompaniment. Today, the star is the watch, so I left out the flashy straps and other fashion accessories. When each object stands out too much, it is not an aesthetic of quiet and refined elegance. When only one or possibly two pieces stand out in particular, then your outfit has a different meaning.
The fourth rule: pay attention to the proportions. Rolled sleeves shorten the arm line and reveal the watch wrist. The shortened leg makes the step easier and visually lengthens the figure. Small tweaks of this kind cost nothing, but change everything.
The last tip applies to every season. Shop less often, but choose items with a story and provenance. A shirt from Veneto, sneakers from Paris and a watch from Zvolen will survive dozens of quick purchases. A modern man’s wardrobe is not measured by the number of pieces, but by the number of stories.
SUMMER CARE GUIDE: HOW TO PROTECT YOUR WATCH, LINEN SHIRT AND WHITE SNEAKERS
Beautiful things also require a little attention, so let me share a few habits. The black DLC coating endures everyday life much more bravely than ordinary steel. However, after swimming in the sea, I always rinse the watch with lukewarm fresh water. Salt is the silent enemy of every clasp and every bracelet joint.
The water resistance of one hundred meters covers swimming without any worries. Of course, I never take out the crown with wet hands or under water. Once a week I wipe the bracelet with a soft cloth, because summer brings sweat and dust. Three minutes of attention preserves a shine that lasts for years.
The mechanism also has its needs, albeit modest ones. The Slovak house recommends a regular service every three years by an authorized craftsman. That visit also preserves the full five-year warranty. I compare it to a small car service: a small expense, but a long peaceful sleep.
A linen shirt doesn’t ask for much either, just understanding. I wash it at a lower temperature and dry it on a hanger, away from strong sunlight. I use the iron while the fabric is still slightly damp, without overdoing it. Linen likes to retain the breath of life, so I never iron it to a glassy shine.
Clean white leather sneakers with a damp cloth immediately after wearing. Occasionally I feed them with colorless cream, just like the shoes. With these small rituals, today’s whole combination will welcome many future summers.

It’s time for reckoning. Biatec Fusion 03 arrived in my life as a curiosity, and remained as a conviction. This watch proves that top craftsmanship doesn’t just reside in Geneva and Glashite. He lives wherever there is passion, patience and respect for the customer.
A small workshop from Zvolen offered a package that deserves all respect. A top-grade Swiss heart, sapphire crystal on both sides and a hard black coating make for a serious foundation. A five-year warranty and a fair price round off the impression of a house that believes in itself. On top of that is the story of the Celtic coin that no other name in the world of watchmaking can tell.
With a white linen shirt and beige trousers by Barena Venezia, the watch received a worthy accompaniment. White Lanvin Bumpr sneakers added a French lightness to every step. Three countries, three family stories and one common language: love for craft.

Il riferimento alle monete celtiche Biatec è stato qualcosa che non conoscevo affatto. Ho anche apprezzato il modo in cui hai abbinato il nero dell’orologio al lino bianco e ai pantaloni beige senza rendere l’insieme troppo pesante. Normalerweise lese ich Modeblogs nur wegen der Kleidung, aber diesmal bin ich wegen der Uhr geblieben. Besonders interessant fand ich die Geschichte, warum der Name Biatec überhaupt existiert. Dass eine kleine Manufaktur in Zvolen so viel Wert auf ihre eigene Herkunft legt, verdient Respekt. Deine Bilder aus Belgrad vermitteln außerdem eine ruhige Eleganz, die perfekt zum gesamten Outfit passt. Ich besitze bereits zwei Uhren mit Sellita-Werken und war bisher sehr zufrieden. Your post reminded me that not every great watch story begins in Switzerland. I admire companies that are proud of their own heritage instead of trying to imitate someone else’s identity. Musta kellotaulu näyttää valokuvissa todella syvältä ja safiirilasin heijastukset näyttävät hienoilta. Kesäinen asukokonaisuus oli hyvin tasapainoinen eikä mikään osa vienyt liikaa huomiota. Je dois dire que cet article m’a surpris dans le bon sens du terme. Je connaissais le mouvement Sellita mais absolument pas cette maison horlogère slovaque. Grâce à ton récit, la montre ne ressemble plus simplement à un objet mais à une partie de l’histoire de son pays. Jag uppskattar verkligen att du alltid försöker förklara varför ett plagg eller en klocka passar in i en garderob. Det gör dina artiklar mer användbara än vanliga recensioner. Fusion 03 verkar vara ett mycket genomtänkt val för någon som uppskattar diskret elegans. Vielen Dank für diesen ausführlichen Beitrag. Besonders gefallen hat mir, dass du die Geschichte der Marke genauso ernst genommen hast wie die technischen Eigenschaften der Uhr. Genau solche Hintergründe machen eine Uhr für mich erst interessant. Auch dein Outfit zeigt sehr schön, dass klassische Eleganz nicht kompliziert sein muss.
