My dear fashionistas, as well as male fans who suddenly became fans of my fashion stories, welcome to another fashion story of Mrs. Mom on the Mr.M blog! I have to admit that I haven’t been here for a long time because we haven’t seen each other since the end of August here this year and I took a break again, but I really needed it. You know that with great love and passion I have been sharing my fashion adventures with you for years with a firmly rooted charm of classic elegance, but after everything that happened to me after plastic surgery I have my ups and downs, I try to accept my new everyday life and the consequences of my wrong choices and to whom I gave my trust, my face and most importantly – my health. I may have skipped the spring-summer season this year, but I’m back to show you the beauty of the new autumn-winter collection of numerous brands because I especially enjoy snuggling up in pieces that are not only warm and cozy, but also sophisticated. Today’s star of this fashion story will be this amazing J. Mendel fur coat made of sable fur.
Each of the pieces from today’s story will tell my story of style, which I have carefully built throughout my life, and every part of this story is connected to some of the brands of the famous fashion world that we know today. As a woman with a lot of life experience, I understand the value of clothing pieces being of high quality and that all aspects of the brand’s design and heritage shine through in each fashion piece. Today’s story is an announcement of the new winter fashion season, but it still reflects a special combination of these brands and my story of style, maturation and femininity.
In the life of each of us, there are fashion pieces that will simply outlive all the current current and passing trends and become part of fashion history, witnesses of special moments, fashion journey and life stages. Such creations carry within them the story of masters who have perfected their craft for centuries, family traditions that are passed down from generation to generation, and the philosophy that true value lies in quality, not quantity. Today I want to share with you the story of one such garment – the J. Mendel sable fur coat with genuine python skin, a creation that perfectly reflects my approach to fashion as a form of art and personal expression.
J. MENDEL: FOUR GENERATIONS OF MASTERY IN THE FUR INDUSTRY
The story of the J. Mendel house begins way back in 1870 in St. Petersburg, when Jacob Mendel founded a workshop for the production of fur, which would become a favorite among the Russian aristocracy. It was an era when Russia was synonymous with the finest furs in the world, and the emperor and the imperial court dictated the standards of luxury that echoed throughout Europe. Mendel’s ability to recognize the exceptional qualities of raw material and transform it into masterpieces quickly earned him a reputation that transcended the borders of the Russian Empire.
However, the history of the 20th century brought dramatic changes. With the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Mendel family had to leave the country, taking with them only their knowledge, skills and unwavering commitment to quality. Like many Russian emigrants of that period, the Mendels found themselves in Paris, a city that was the epicenter of creativity, art and fashion in the interwar period. In the French capital, the fashion house J. Mendel continued its tradition, adapting to the new market but keeping the essence that made them exceptional, which is impeccable craftsmanship and respect for natural and noble materials.
Decades later, in 1981, Gilles Mandel, great-grandson of the founder, brought a fresh vision to the family tradition by moving the business to New York. Gilles, who grew up in Paris learning the trade from his father and grandfather, understood that the American luxury market was looking for something different, which is fashion urbanity and modernity rooted in tradition, the ease of combining fashion without losing elegance, a modern approach that does not neglect centuries of knowledge. Under his creative leadership, J. Mendel becomes synonymous with innovation in the world of fur, experimenting with colors, textures and combinations of materials that no one was allowed to try before.
What makes the J. Mendel brand special is precisely that bridge between the past and the present. While many modern brands try to create a sense of tradition, J. Mendel is actually passionate about that tradition, four generations of knowledge woven into every stitch, every line, every piece that leaves their workshop. Their approach to fur is not just commercial, it’s a philosophy that values animal raw material as a precious resource that deserves the highest level of craftsmanship and respect.
J. MENDEL THE STORY OF SABLE: THE EMPEROR AMONG THE FURS
Whenever I discuss fur with people who may not be well versed in the field, sable (sable) always evokes a special fascination for fur lovers, and rightfully so. Sable fur is considered one of the most luxurious and prized furs in the world, and its history is intertwined with imperial courts, trade routes that connected the continents and stories of the wildness of the Siberian forests.
Sable or Martes zibellina is a small animal from the marten family that lives in the coldest regions of Siberia. It is precisely those harsh climatic conditions that make its fur exceptional, nature has created a perfect protection that combines incredible softness with exceptional density and warmth. Unlike many other furs, sable has a unique hair structure that reflects light in a special way, creating a natural luster and depth of color that ranges from deep brown tones to rare, almost black shades that have been reserved for royalty for centuries.
In Russian history, the sable was so valuable that it even served as currency at one point. Traders traveled for months through Siberia looking for the best specimens, and the imperial treasuries kept sable furs and fur coats as part of the state treasure. It is no accident that Ivan the Terrible wore a cloak of the finest sable, it was not just a matter of warmth or fashion, but a visible symbol of power, wealth and divine right to rule.
Today, the best quality sable still comes from Russia, especially from the region around Lake Baikal and the Barguzin Valley in Siberia. Fur from this area is considered the best in the world due to its exceptional density, natural luster and unique hair structure. However, the acquisition of sable became more and more complex and regulated, which further increased the value of these fur pieces.
When I first tried on this J. Mendel sable fur coat, I immediately understood why generations have considered this fur special. Softness is something that is hard to describe in words, it is not a simple soft texture, it feels like you are touching a cloud, something almost surreal in its incredibly soft texture. And yet, beneath that unreal softness, you feel a density and structure that speaks of exceptional quality and durability.
The combination of sable fur with real python skin may seem unexpected at first glance, but it is in this combination of seemingly opposite elements that Gilles Mendel’s genius lies. Python leather, with its characteristic patterns and texture that varies from extremely smooth to slightly rougher, creates a visual contrast that elevates this fashion piece to the level of a work of art.
Python leather has its own rich history in the world of luxury. Known for its natural geometric patterns that no artificial imitation can fully reproduce, python skin has been prized for centuries. Every leather is unique, nature creates patterns that never repeat, which means that every piece made of python leather is special and unrepeatable.
Python leather completes this fur coat as a detail that further emphasizes the line and structure of the piece. Beige drape tones of sable blend harmoniously with natural shades of python skin, creating a monochromatic palette that is at once refined, sophisticated and timelessly elegant. It is not a joining of materials for effect, it is a carefully planned symphony of textures and tones where each element has its role in the whole.
J. Mendel masters understand that working with exotic skins requires not only technical knowledge but also artistic sensibility. Python leather must be carefully selected, treated and positioned so that the natural patterns add to the design, not distract from it. Each seam must be executed perfectly because mistakes on such material cannot be hidden.
MAX MARA CASHMERE ROLLER: THE REFINEMENT OF ITALIAN ELEGANCE
When designing an outfit around such an extraordinary piece as a sable fur coat, the other elements must be equally thoughtful, striking enough, but not distracting from the main piece of clothing. That’s why this time I chose Max Mara’s Meana cashmere turtleneck, a piece that perfectly illustrates the Italian approach to luxurious casualness.
Max Mara, a fashion house founded in 1951 in the small town of Reggio Emilia, has become synonymous with sophisticated, timeless classic timeless elegance that has for years represented true quiet luxury. Achille Maramotti, the founder of the brand, had a vision to create the perfect wardrobe for the modern woman, garments that combine traditional Italian craftsmanship with contemporary needs. More than seven decades later, Max Mara remains true to that philosophy.
The cashmere used by the fashion house Max Mara comes from goats from the highlands of Mongolia and China, where the harsh climatic conditions produce the finest wool. But getting the raw material is only the first step. Max Mara invests in the highest quality Italian factories that process that fiber through processes that have been perfected for decades, washing in clean mountain waters, combing that removes all the rough parts, spinning that keeps the natural softness of the fiber.
The color of my skateboard is crystal white, it may seem simple, but it actually requires special attention from the viewer. White cashmere must be perfect because every irregularity, every uneven tonality is immediately visible. Max Mara achieves this perfection through a process that combines the most modern technology with ancient know-how, ensuring that each piece has that characteristic shine and softness for which the brand is known.
In terms of design, the Meana turtleneck has that perfect collar height that protects without being tight around the neck, a cut that follows the body line but leaves room for comfort, a sleeve length that ends in just the right place. These are the details that you only realize when you’re wearing a true piece of quiet luxury, they’re never spectacular, but they make the difference between clothes that force you to adapt and clothes that simply adapt to you.
LORO PIANA TROUSERS: THE DEFINITION OF DISCREET QUIET LUXURY
Loro Piana represents what I call the pinnacle of discreet luxury, brands that do not publicly emphasize their value but discreetly communicate it to those who understand and therefore own their pieces in their wardrobes. Founded in 1924 at the foot of the Italian Alps, Loro Piana has remained a family business for six generations dedicated to one simple idea: sourcing the world’s finest natural fibers and transforming them into unparalleled textiles.
My Timi trousers from the Royal Lightness collection are a perfect example of that philosophy. Royal Lightness is not just a marketing phrase, it is a proprietary Loro Piana technology that produces wool fabrics that are incredibly light, almost transparent, yet retain the warmth and structure needed for an elegant fit. How do they achieve that balance? Through careful selection of the finest merino fibers, innovative spinning that maximizes the air in the fiber and weaving on traditional looms that allow them to control every millimeter of fabric.
The color of my trousers, that perfect beige that varies between the color of the sand and the color of the earth depending on the light, is no accident. Loro Piana uses natural dyes wherever possible, appreciating how they age with the material in a way that synthetic dyes cannot reproduce. These shades are not just a choice for an aesthetic that pleases my eye, they actually represent a philosophy of respect for natural materials and processes carried out by Loro Piana.
The fit of the Timmy pants reflects an understanding of the female body that comes from decades of experience. A high waist that does not cut but defines, the width of the legs that fall flat without spoiling the natural female silhouette and femininity, the length of the leg that ends exactly where it should. Loro Piana understands that true elegance does not come from complicated cuts but from perfection in proportions.
PEARLS: A PERSONAL VINTAGE HISTORY
Every time I fasten the clasp of my lemniscate pearl necklace, a horizontal eight sign that represents the concept of something that has no end, border, beginning or end, and put on the earrings I bought together with this necklace, I remember a cold December day about fifteen years ago in a small vintage jewelry store in Rome. It was one of those shops that almost don’t exist anymore: small, dark, full of jewelry that carries the stories of generations.
So many years have passed, and I still remember the face of the former owner, an elderly gentleman whose hands were trembling as he carefully pulled out the box, he told me that the pearls he wanted to show me had a turbulent history. I thought that these were the typical stories of older people, but when I saw the trademarks and the old original documentation, I realized that the man knows what he is talking about. Since the clasp opens in a very unusual way, he insisted on putting the necklace around my neck, I felt the coldness of the pearls and the weight of that history. Each pearl was perfectly shaped with that natural luster that only old pearls make it distinctive, not harsh and artificial, but warm and deeper, as if the light were coming from within.
The gentleman was a very charming and old salesman, so somehow we managed after a long haggling to agree on the price. He started the process himself and I realized that it was not a question of price, but of trade skills. After we agreed on the price, the gentleman returned the pearl necklace and realized during the packing that the earrings were also left behind. He remembered the earrings and asked for their box, I didn’t understand why, but in the end he told me that they were meant for me and that it was his gift to me because no one had entered his shop for a long time. To thank him, I also bought an interesting brooch, because I wanted to have something else beautiful from his shop. Three years later, during my visit to Rome, the shop was still there, but the smiling elderly gentleman was no longer there, but his daughter who recognized the brooch. During the next visit, that store was no longer there and I felt a kind of emptiness.
Pearls have a fascinating history in the world of fashion and society. For centuries they were a symbol of purity, wisdom and wealth. Unlike gems that must be cut and shaped, pearls come from nature almost perfect, which made them magical in the eyes of our ancestors. Rome, Persia, China, simply all great civilizations valued pearls as a symbol of status and power.
It is interesting that the quality of pearls is evaluated through several factors: luster, shape, size, color and surface quality. My pearls have that characteristic creamy luster of old pearls, a slight irregularity in shape that speaks of their natural genesis and a surface that, while not flawless under a microscope, has that luster that only comes with years of wear. Pearls are believed to gain depth of color and luster when worn regularly, as the natural oils from the skin keep them alive.
LOUIS VUITTON SPEEDY TRUNK 25 BAG: A FAMOUS FASHION ICON IN A NEW GEAR
My Louis Vuitton Speedy Trunk 25 bag in monogram canvas material with leather details is a perfect blend of history, craftsmanship and functionality. Louis Vuitton, founded in 1854, began as a trunk maker for the French aristocracy. Georges Vuitton, son of the founder, created the iconic monogram canvas in 1896, which has become one of the most recognizable patterns in fashion history.
The Speedy model was originally designed in the 1930s in response to the need for a smaller, city bag that retained the elegance of larger travel pieces. The story goes that Coco Chanel requested a smaller version of the Keepall bag and thus the new icon Speedy was born. The version of the Speedy Trunk 25 I’m wearing fuses that classic design with elements inspired by historic Louis Vuitton trunks, metal corners, closures that mimic locks on old trunks, and details that pay homage to the brand’s travel heritage.
What makes Louis Vuitton special is not only the distinctive design but also the incredible quality of craftsmanship. Each bag is handmade in French workshops where artisans go through years of training. Canvas canvas is not only printed, it is a special weave coated with a natural leather coating that makes it waterproof and extremely durable. The leather details are made of natural tanned leather that ages and acquires a patina over time.
LORO PIANA SUMMER CHARMS WALK Moccasins: THE EASE OF A PERFECT WALK ON CLOUDS
Footwear can complete and enhance or simply destroy an outfit, especially when it comes to a wardrobe that combines more formal elements like a sable fur coat with a more relaxed aesthetic. Loro Piana Summer Charms Walk moccasins in their lightness and simplicity contribute to fashion balance.
Moccasins have a long history, originally this form of footwear worn by the indigenous peoples of North America, developed over the centuries to provide comfort and flexibility. The European fashion world took up this concept in the 20th century, transforming it into a symbol of casual elegance. Loro Piana further refines that tradition through materials and craftsmanship that only they can offer.
The Summer Charms Walk version I’m wearing is made from the finest suede that’s so soft it feels like plush silk. The beige color (sandstone) with gold details complements that quiet luxury that Loro Piana markets so well to its customers. What makes these moccasins special is the White Sole technology, a sole made of special rubber that is incredibly light but provides excellent grip and comfort.
The detail I love the most are the small gold metal embellishments that adorn the front of the shoe – discreet, elegant, details that complement the beauty of these moccasins. Loro Piana understands that true elegance lies in details that are not imposed, but are displayed discreetly.
BASIS OF BEIGE TONES HARMONY PHILOSOPHY
When you look at my outfit as a whole, you’ll notice that everything is in the spectrum of beige, drape and creamy white tones. It’s me, a mature woman in her prime talking about my approach to fashion and style.
Beige and neutral colors have this amazing ability to highlight the quality of materials and fit rather than distracting with color. When everything is in a similar palette, the eye focuses on textures, the way light plays on sable fur, the fall of Loro Piana fabric, the shine of pearls. It’s a sophisticated approach that requires confidence, there’s simply no place to hide behind color or prints, everything has to be flawless.
In addition, neutral colors carry with them a timeless elegance that bright colors rarely achieve. While neon shades or energetic patterns can look refreshing, in most cases a well-combined beige wardrobe remains relevant for decades. It reflects my philosophy of investing in pieces that will last, that won’t end up forgotten in the closet because they are “forgotten”.
Also, there is something soothing about these neutral tones. In the modern world, where many brands are focused on creating garments with emphatic logos, which often cry for attention, the decision to wear brands of quiet luxury, but with authority, reflects maturity and confidence. You don’t have to wear a red dress to get noticed, you can sometimes wear a monochromatic beige combination with such quality that people recognise the value.
ARE FASHION CHOICES IN ADULTS AN EXPRESSION OF FREEDOM AND AUTHENTICITY?
At sixty-seven years old, I learned something that took me decades to understand: true elegance does not come from blindly following rules, but from truly understanding yourself. The fashion industry often tries to dictate age limits, what you can and can’t wear after a certain age. Those rules are, in my opinion, outdated and restrictive.
My sable fur coat is not “age appropriate” or “inappropriate”, it is just perfect because I love it, because I understand its true value and quality, because I feel like me when I wear it. That’s what maturity brings, and it’s freedom from the need to seek someone else’s approval, the courage to wear what we love, the wisdom to invest in quality rather than quantity.
Over the years, my wardrobe has become a curated collection of fashion pieces that each carry their own story. Each piece is carefully selected, not impulsively bought. I no longer buy because something is “trendy” or because it seems like a good catch because of the price, I buy because I understand the value, because I know I will wear a piece for years, because it fits not only my body but also my attitude.
This approach also means accepting less clothing but more value. I’d rather have one J. Mendel coat that will last for decades and give to the next generation than fifteen trendy pieces that will be out of date in a year. It is not only a sustainable approach to fashion but also a philosophy of life.
FASHION AS A PERSONAL STAMP AND A REFLECTION OF CHARACTER
Ultimately, fashion is and always will be a form of personal expression for a person. My wardrobe today is not just a list of brands or pieces of clothing. It is a story about who I am, what I value, how I see the world around me.
By choosing superior quality over quantity, timeless elegance over trends, craftsmanship over mass production, I’m making a statement not just about fashion but about life. I’m talking about respecting tradition while living the modern life of a modern woman filled with functionality and remembering the past, while looking to the future with the hope that it will serve me in addition to my sense of fashion and health.
These pieces are not just clothes, for me they are an investment in myself, an expression of respect for those who dedicate their lives to the perfection of their craft and a legacy I plan to leave for generations to come. In a world that moves faster and faster, where values are often confused with prices, the decision to stop and appreciate true values becomes a revolutionary act.
I thank the J. Mendel brand for creating fashion masterpieces that stand the test of time, for continuing a tradition that goes back a century and a half, for maintaining standards of excellence in a world that often takes the easy way out. Their sable python coat is not just a piece of clothing, it’s a work of art that I wear with pride and gratitude.
Also, I want to express my gratitude to all the fashion houses that are present in this outfit, because each one of you represents a different aspect of luxury, craftsmanship and commitment to fashion excellence. Together, you create the harmony that makes my style what it is.
Let this post inspire you to think about your wardrobe, not as a collection of things but as a curated gallery of pieces that speak to you, your values, your story. May it inspire you to invest in quality, appreciate craftsmanship and wear what you love with the confidence that comes from a deep understanding of value
Special note:
All photographs in today’s post have been carefully edited in accordance with the aesthetics and professional guidelines of fashion photography, as well as the expectations of the blog’s partners and readers. In a previous period, I underwent Deep Plane Face and Neck lifting procedures abroad. Unfortunately, the outcome did not meet standard medical expectations and resulted in certain aesthetic and health-related consequences. My experience and personal perspective regarding these procedures are described in more detail in a separate article, prepared in consultation with my legal advisors, which is available at the following LINK.
Rose, your explanation of how J. Mendel combines centuries of tradition with modern innovation through pieces like the sable with python is brilliant. I own a vintage fur coat from my grandmother, and your respectful approach to wearing fur as a long-term investment rather than disposable fashion resonates with me. What’s your advice for someone starting to build a luxury wardrobe?
