My dear fashionistas, welcome to a new fashion story on the Mr.M blog! Today I am taking you on a journey through the world of timeless style, where the tradition of French tailoring meets the finest Italian materials. In this fashion adventure, I will show you how I combined pieces from the famous fashion house Saint Laurent with Aida Barni’s most luxurious cashmere, precisely crafted Santoni Italian shoes and elegant leather goods from the Italian house Pineider 1774. Every detail of this outfit has its own story, and I will reveal to you all the secrets of the brands behind these exceptional fashion pieces.
THE WAY OF A VISIONARY: THE STORY OF YVES SAINT LAURENT
When we talk about the Saint Laurent fashion house, we have to go back in time and meet the man who changed the world of women’s and men’s fashion forever. Yves Saint Laurent was born on August 1, 1936 in Oran, Algeria, in a family of French colonists with Spanish roots. From an early age, he showed an exceptional talent for design, creating clothes for his mother and sisters.
His destiny was forever changed when he won an international award for wool design in 1953 at the age of just seventeen. This award attracted the attention of Michel de Brynhoff, editor of the French edition of Vogue magazine, who presented it to Christian Dior himself. Dior was so impressed by young Saint Laurent’s talent that he hired him immediately. When Dior died in 1957, Saint Laurent was appointed as the chief designer of Dior at the age of only twenty-one, which reverberated like a sensation in the entire fashion world.
However, the road to fame was not easy. After military service in Algeria in 1960, Saint Laurent suffered a nervous breakdown and was fired from the house of Dior. But, as is often the case with truly great creatives, this obstacle became a springboard for something much bigger.
SAINT LAURENT: THE BIRTH OF A FASHION EMPIRE
In 1961, Yves Saint Laurent and his life partner Pierre Bergé founded their own fashion house that would bear his name. Thanks to the financing of the American billionaire Jack Robinson and the cosmetics company Charles of the Ritz, San Laurent’s name soon became synonymous with a revolution in fashion.
The first collection was presented in January 1962, and the opening was attended by members of royal families and the most influential figures of the fashion industry. Critics immediately compared him to Coco Chanel herself, which speaks of the greatness of his talent. One of the key innovations was his decision to launch the first line of pret-a-porte collection called Rive Gauche in 1966, which democratized haute couture and made it more accessible to a wider audience.
In the same year, Saint Laurent presented his iconic piece Le Smoking, a women’s tuxedo suit that forever changed the perception of female elegance. Icons like Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli and Catherine Deneuve were among the first women to embrace this revolutionary style. The famous logo with interlocking letters was designed by graphic artist Kassandre in 1963, creating one of the most recognizable symbols in the world of fashion.
Yves Saint Laurent retired from active design in 2002 and died in 2008 from brain cancer. However, his legacy lives on today. The Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris keeps over five thousand pieces of haute couture, fifteen thousand fashion sketches and thousands of other objects that testify to his extraordinary contribution to the world of fashion. It is interesting that in 1983 he became the first living fashion designer to receive a retrospective exhibition at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
A NEW ERA: FROM YVES SAINT LAURENT TO SAINT LAURENT
In 2012, creative director Eddie Slimane made a significant decision that shook the fashion world, dropping the name Yves from the brand name for the pret-a-porte collection line. This change caused much controversy among fans of the brand, but it also marked a new era focused on a modern, youthful aesthetic while preserving the essence of Parisian elegance and boldness established by the original founder.
Today, creative director Anthony Vaccarello successfully continues Saint Laurent’s vision, bringing his unique style to the house’s legacy. In 2024, the Saint Laurent brand reported sales of an incredible 2.9 billion euros, which confirms that this fashion house still holds a high place in the world of luxury.
MY SAINT LAURENT PICK: PEPITO PRINT DOUBLE-BREASTED JACKET
For today’s outfit, I chose an exquisite double-breasted jacket from the brand Saint Laurent in a classic pepito print, obtained through the Mytheresa platform. This jacket perfectly exemplifies everything that Saint Laurent stands for, which is impeccable tailoring, attention to detail and that specific combination of masculinity and sophistication that was Yves Saint Laurent’s trademark.
Houndstooth print is one of the most classic designs in men’s fashion that never goes out of style. This pattern has its roots in Scottish tradition, but over the decades it has become a universal symbol of elegance. The double-breasted cut of the jacket adds formality and structure to the overall look, while the brown-beige tones of the houndstooth print make it easy to combine with various pieces from my wardrobe.
What makes this jacket special is its construction. The lining of the jacket is made of the highest quality materials, and every seam testifies to the dedication to detail that is characteristic of this fashion house. The buttons are placed with precise symmetry, and the pockets are positioned to visually elongate the silhouette.
THE SECRETS OF SAINT LAURENT HIGH WAIST JEANS
With the jacket, I paired the high-waisted Saint Laurent jeans that I also got through the Mytheresa platform. These jeans represent the perfect combination of casualness and elegance, with a cut that flatters the figure and creates a clean, modern line.
The high waist is a detail that not only visually lengthens the legs, but also allows tops, such as turtlenecks and jackets, to be elegantly tucked in for a more relaxed look to the overall fashion combination. The dark blue shade of denim is versatile enough to be combined with both formal and more relaxed pieces, and the quality of the denim guarantees durability and resistance to wear.
MYTHERESA: THE ROAD FROM A MUNICH BOUTIQUE TO A GLOBAL LUXURY PLATFORM
I got both pieces from the Saint Laurent brand through the Mytheresa platform, which has a fascinating story worthy of the attention of any fashion lover.
It all started in 1987 when husband and wife Susanne and Christoph Botschen opened the Teresa boutique in the heart of Munich. Their vision was simple but ambitious: to offer a carefully selected collection of designer fashion to the most demanding clientele. The boutique quickly gained a reputation as a destination for true luxury lovers.
In 2006, the couple took a pioneering step, launching the Mytheresa online platform, becoming one of the first in Germany to recognize the potential of digital luxury sales. As Ms. Susanne once put it, it was her husband’s best idea besides marrying her. It is interesting that they launched their online platform two years before the giant Zalando, proving their visionary spirit.
Today, Mytheresa offers over two hundred and fifty luxury brands, including Bottega Veneta, Brunello Cucinelli, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Loewe, Loro Piana, Prada, Saint Laurent and many others. The platform delivers to over one hundred and thirty countries worldwide and has become synonymous with a high-quality online shopping experience of pure luxury.

In May 2020, following the bankruptcy of Neiman Marcus, Mytheresa was spun off and continued to operate independently. In January 2021, the company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange, raising an impressive four hundred and seven million dollars. In April 2025, Mytheresa acquired Yoox Net-A-Porter from Richemont, creating a leading global digital luxury group under the new name LuxExperience.
What sets Mytheresa apart from the competition is their approach to collection curation. A team of experts carefully selects every piece that finds its way onto the platform, ensuring that customers get only the best of the best. Exclusive collections and special collaborations with designers make this platform a favorite destination for fashion lovers around the world.
AIDA BARNI: TUSCAN CHARM WOVEN IN CASHMERE
Underneath the Saint Laurent jacket, I’m wearing a turtleneck made of the finest cashmere in camel color by Aida Barni. This Italian house represents the pinnacle of knowledge and passion for one of the most noble natural fibers in the world.
Aida Barni is a brand belonging to the Annapurna group, a company founded in 1978. The name Annapurna evokes extraordinary mountain landscapes, especially the massif in the Himalayas in north-central Nepal, home to goats whose winter fleece hides the soft, warm fiber that has made them so famous.
Aida Barni, president and artistic director of the company since its inception, was one of the first women to contribute to the expansion of Italian cashmere knitwear worldwide. Her innovative approach to design and unique way of using colors, textures and styles challenged common norms and set new standards in the knitwear industry. It was thanks to her efforts that cashmere with the Made in Italy label took a leading place in the world of fashion.
The company uses all the latest production techniques available on the market, from cotton looms to state-of-the-art knitting machines of all sizes. The current production capacity is around 120,000 pieces per year, which is really impressive when you consider the level of quality they maintain.
What is particularly important to emphasize is that the entire production cycle takes place in Italy, more precisely in the company’s factory located in the city of Prato, the capital of the province of the same name in the heart of Tuscany. The Made in Italy label is not just a product declaration, but a proof of love and deep respect for an art that is not worshiped every day.
The Aida Barni cashmere roll I’m wearing today is made from a double-ply yarn that has a soft yet durable finish. The camel color is a timeless classic that goes perfectly with the houndstooth print of the jacket, creating a harmonious palette of earth tones that exudes sophistication.
You can buy Aida Barni cashmere items in well-stocked stores across Europe and the world and through authorized online stores. When you give someone a piece of the Aida Barney brand, you are giving more than respect and love, you are giving a piece that is woven with a love of tradition and a deep respect for an art that is not celebrated every day.
LINDA FARROW: LONDON’S GLASSES ICON SINCE 1970
On my eyes, I’m wearing Ace aviator glasses in 22-carat gold from Linda Farrow. This British house has a rich history that goes back to the 1970s and is a pioneer in treating glasses as a true fashion accessory.
Linda Farrow was founded in 1970 in London by designer Linda Farrow. She was among the first to treat sunglasses as high fashion, creating collection after collection of avant-garde designs that always followed the spirit of the times. Her pioneering use of shape helped push eyewear into high fashion territory, and her avant-garde styles were a favorite among stars like Yoko Ono.
During the seventies and eighties, the brand collaborated with fashion houses such as Balenciaga, Saint Laurent and Pucci, creating eyewear that became a fashion manifesto. After a twenty-year hiatus, the brand was revived in 2003 by Simon Jablon, son of Linda Farrow, when he discovered his mother’s collection of original designs at the family warehouse in London at the age of twenty-four.
The Ace model I’m wearing is made of 18- to 22-carat gold-plated titanium, with matching gold lenses. These glasses represent a fusion of pioneering design and outstanding craftsmanship, and each pair is handcrafted in Japan. The aviator shape is a classic that never goes out of fashion, and the golden tones fit perfectly into the entire palette of my outfit today.
The brand continues its tradition of innovation today, collaborating with designers such as JACQUEMUS, Dries Van Noten and The Attico on exclusive collections. In 2020, Linda Farrow celebrated fifty years of existence, proving that true elegance really does not have an expiration date.
SANTONI: WHEN ITALIAN CRAFTSMANSHIP MEETS THE MODERN WORLD
On my feet I am wearing sneakers model Oly from the Italian brand Santoni in dark brown suede leather. This Italian luxury footwear house represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and elegance passed down from generation to generation.
Santoni was founded in 1975 in the small town of Corridonia, in the Marche region of Italy, an area known for its footwear production along the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The founder Andrea Santoni had a clear goal: to create perfect footwear for true connoisseurs of quality. His small workshop at the very beginning grew over the years into a large company with almost five hundred employees, without ever forgetting the authenticity of that first small craft laboratory.
What makes Santoni special is their approach to craftsmanship. Unlike most brands that stick to one or two sole making techniques, Santoni uses an impressive ten or more different techniques, choosing the one that will best highlight the design of each particular model. From the Goody method to the Blake technique, from hand sewing to thermoformed construction, each pair of shoes receives the treatment that best suits it.
Particularly impressive is the department for manual leather dyeing, where around eighty out of a total of five hundred artisans work. The masters have inherited a unique color recipe and apply up to fifteen layers of different shades to the skin. This technique, called velatura, is similar to the procedures used by Renaissance artists, giving each pair a unique finish that cannot be repeated.
The Oly model I’m wearing combines inspiration from seventies tennis shoes with modern Italian craftsmanship. It’s crafted in Italy from brown suede leather with hand-finished color gradients and a thermoformed construction that accentuates the design’s lines. The leather lining and rubber sole ensure all-day comfort, while the style remains impeccably elegant.
Today, the company is managed by Giuseppe Santoni, son of the founder, who continued his father’s tradition of commitment to quality while at the same time leading the brand in new directions. Collaborations with IWC Schaffhausen on leather watch straps and with Mercedes AMG show that Santoni successfully combines tradition with contemporary luxury.
PINEIDER: 250 YEARS OF FLORENTINE ELEGANCE
I complete the whole look with a leather backpack and passport holder from the brand Pineider from their collection with grainy leather texture. This Florentine house has a history that goes back deep into the 18th century and is a real gem of Italian craftsmanship.
Pineider was founded by Francesco Pineider in 1774 in the heart of Florence, on the famous Piazza della Signoria, opposite Michelangelo’s David. The initial activity was the production of personalized printed letters, a practice taken over from Anglo-Saxon and Germanic traditions. This made it the first in Italy to offer this kind of service.
During the 19th century, Pineider became a mandatory stop for travellers on the Grand Tour through Europe. Among its famous customers were Napoleon, Lord Byron and Stendhal, which speaks of the reputation the house has acquired. When Florence became the capital of Italy in 1865, Pineider’s clientele expanded to include embassies, ministries and civil services.
The transfer of the capital to Rome in 1870 led Pineider to open a second shop in the Eternal City to meet the needs of the royal court. In 1884, the company patented an innovative fountain pen ink filling system, demonstrating a constant drive for innovation. Production expanded to leather goods in 1890, starting a tradition that continues to this day.
By 1900, Pineider had become a point of reference for politicians, public figures and celebrities such as Rudolf Nureyev, Ridley Scott, Patricia Bertelli, Luciano Pavarotti and Giorgio Armani. The Italian government chose Pineider as one of the official suppliers for the G8 summit in Genoa in 2001, and in 2009 the heads of state at the G8 summit in L’Aquila received gifts of Pineider products.
In 2017, the Rovagnati family became the new owner of the company, starting a new era with a renewed passion for Italian quality, history and craftsmanship. Today, Pineider has boutiques in Milan, Rome, London, New York and of course, Florence, continuing the tradition of two and a half centuries.
The backpack I’m wearing from the collection with a grainy texture is made of the highest quality camel leather, with elegant silver details and practical compartments for everyday needs. A passport holder from the same collection matches the backpack perfectly, creating a coherent luxury travel kit. Both pieces can be personalized with your initials, a tradition that Pineider has nurtured since its inception.
MY PHILOSOPHY OF TIMELESS STYLE
This outfit of mine today is not just a combination of luxury brands, but represents my personal fashion philosophy. Do we really believe in the concept of timeless style? For me, the answer is an unequivocal yes. Each piece I have chosen has its own story, its own legacy and its own reason for being in my wardrobe.
The Saint Laurent jacket and jeans bring Parisian chic and that specific combination of nonchalance and elegance that defines French style. The Aida Barni turtleneck dolcevita adds warmth and softness, showing that luxury can also be extremely comfortable. Santoni sneakers are proof that classic elegance doesn’t have to be impractical, combining superior craftsmanship with contemporary design. Linda Farrow eyewear adds glamor and a finishing touch to the overall look, while Pineider haberdashery demonstrates that functionality and beauty can go hand in hand.
What connects all these brands is their commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Each of them continued the tradition of their founders, adapting to modern needs without losing the essence that made them great. That, in my opinion, is the true definition of luxury, pieces that are not bought for one season, but for a lifetime.
PRACTICAL TIPS FOR CREATING A SIMILAR FASHION COMBINATION
For all of you who want to achieve a similar look, here are some tips:
Earth tones like brown, beige, camel and navy always work well together. The key is in gradation, lighter tones closer to the face, darker tones down, which visually balances the figure.
When wearing a bold print like houndstooth, try to keep the rest of the outfit simple. Solid color pieces like this camel turtleneck allow the jacket to be the center of attention without adding extra clutter.
Mixing textures adds depth and visual contrast. Here we have a woolen jacket, a cashmere turtleneck, jeans and suede sneakers, four different textures that complement each other harmoniously.
Quality leather accessories in matching tones tie the whole look together. The backpack and passport case in the same shade create an impression of sophisticated style.
Eyeglasses with gold details tie all the elements together and add a touch of glamor to an otherwise rather restrained color palette.
FASHION LESSONS OF MEN’S ELEGANCE
This outfit is extremely adaptable to different seasons. For cooler autumn and winter days, the jacket provides enough warmth for the urban environment, while the cashmere turtleneck adds a layer of insulation around the neck. On milder spring days, the jacket can be removed and worn over the arm, leaving the turtleneck as the main top.
Jeans are so versatile that they work all year round, and Santoni sneakers with their rubber soles handle different weather conditions well. For rainy days, I recommend an additional impregnation for suede leather to preserve their finish.
My dear fashionistas, each of these fashion stories has its own message and meaning. From the revolutionary vision of Yves Saint Laurent, through the family legacy of Susanne and Christophe Bochen who created Mytheresa, to Aida Barni’s passion for cashmere, Andrea Santoni’s commitment to perfect footwear, the pioneering spirit of Linda Farrow and the two and a half centuries of Florentine tradition of Pineider, every brand I wear today has a story worth mentioning.
Fashion is not just clothes. It is a way of expression, respect for tradition and craftsmanship, investment in pieces that will last for decades. I hope you enjoyed this fashion story and maybe discovered something new about brands you know or are just getting to know.
How did you like my outfit today? I really tried to prepare this post with lots of love and I hope you like it! Hello Marko, what an incredible fashion story! I’ve been a Saint Laurent fan for years and own several pieces from their collection, including a black Le Smoking jacket that I treasure. Your choice of the houndstooth double-breasted blazer is stunning, and I love how you explained the history of Yves Saint Laurent being appointed chief designer of Dior at only twenty-one years old. The cobblestone street setting with the elegant European architecture in your photos perfectly complements the Parisian chic aesthetic of the outfit.

Marko, this is one of the most comprehensive fashion posts I’ve ever read! I own a Saint Laurent leather jacket and have always appreciated the brand’s aesthetic. Your Ace aviator sunglasses in 22-karat gold add such a glamorous finishing touch to the outfit. The golden tones tie all the elements together beautifully.
Ciao Marko!
Marko, your fashion philosophy resonates deeply with me! I agree that true luxury consists of pieces bought not for one season but for a lifetime. The history of Saint Laurent presenting Le Smoking in 1966, the women’s tuxedo suit that forever changed the perception of female elegance, shows the revolutionary spirit of the house. Your double-breasted houndstooth blazer embodies that same spirit of timeless sophistication. The way you’ve styled it with Italian cashmere and Santoni sneakers creates a perfect balance of formal and casual.
Hello Marko, what a beautifully written fashion story! I love learning about the heritage behind luxury brands. The detail about the Yves Saint Laurent Museum in Paris keeping over five thousand haute couture pieces and fifteen thousand fashion sketches is amazing. Your outfit on that charming European street with the elegant architecture creates such a sophisticated atmosphere. The earth-tone palette of brown, beige, camel, and navy that you describe working well together is clearly demonstrated in your stunning photos.
