Rome is a city you don’t have to understand to love. It is enough to step into its streets, breathe in the smell of freshly prepared pasta from some hidden restaurant and listen to that melodious Italian language. It was this feeling that greeted me when I arrived at Via dei Maroniti 19, home to the Master Trevi Rome, a four-star aparthotel that delighted me in more ways than I expected.
This is not a classic Roman hotel with a marble lobby and porters in suits. Master Trevi Rome offers something completely different. It is a concept that combines the comfort of a private apartment with all the amenities you expect from serious hotel accommodation. As someone who has stayed in a wide variety of properties around the world, I have to say that this approach blew me away with its thoughtfulness.
WHERE IS MASTER TREVI ROMA LOCATED AND WHY IS THE LOCATION SO IMPORTANT?
When I talk about location, hardly any accommodation in Rome can match this aparthotel. Master Trevi Rome is literally a two-minute walk from the famous Trevi Fountain. That’s not a marketing phrase, I really got from my apartment to the most famous Roman fountain in about a hundred steps.
In addition, the Barberini metro station is a five-minute walk away. The Spanish Steps are a ten-minute walk away, while the Pantheon and Piazza Navona are also within walking distance. Via del Corso, one of Rome’s most famous shopping streets, is practically around the corner.
For passengers arriving by plane, Fiumicino Airport (Leonardo da Vinci) is about fifteen kilometers away, while Ciampino Airport is a little closer, about fifteen kilometers in the opposite direction. Both airports have regular bus and train connections to the city centre, so getting to Master Trevi Rome is easy regardless of which flight you arrive on.
WHAT IS MASTER TREVI ROMA ANYWAY?
Before I describe my stay in detail, it is worth explaining what an aparthotel actually means. This accommodation concept is increasingly popular in Europe, and Master Trevi Rome is a perfect example of how it works in practice. The essence is simple, you get the space and freedom of a private apartment, but with hotel service that includes daily cleaning, reception and additional amenities.
Master Trevi Rome has 27 carefully designed suites. We offer studios and apartments with one, two or three bedrooms. Each apartment comes with a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning, high-speed wireless internet and a fifty-inch smart TV. What particularly delighted me was that this facility looks brand new, because it actually is.
This concept is ideal for travelers who want more space than a classic hotel room. It’s also great for families, as multi-bedroom apartments offer much more comfort than connecting hotel rooms. I especially appreciate being able to make my own coffee or light breakfast in the morning, as it gives the trip a more personal and relaxed tone.
WHO IS BEHIND THIS BRAND? THE STORY OF THE MASTER CHAIN
Master Trevi Rome belongs to the chain of aparthotels and serviced apartments under the master brand, which is part of the Fattal Hotel Group. This hotel group manages more than forty thousand rooms worldwide and is known for its Leonardo Hotels, NYX Hotels and Jurys Inn brands. The experience gained in managing so many facilities is clearly felt in every detail of Master Trevi Rome.
The master chain currently has 13 facilities in nine cities across Europe. In addition to the Rome facility, they have their aparthotels and serviced apartments in London (three locations: St. Paul’s, Cannon and Farringdon), Barcelona (La Rambla), Athens (Plaka), Warsaw (Wola, new facility), Hamburg (Altona), Salzburg (two facilities: Mirabell and Linzergasse), Tel Aviv (Mazeh and Shenkin) and Bat Yam.
Regarding expansion plans, the master chain has announced the opening of a new facility in Athens called master Psyri, which is expected during 2026. This data indicates that the brand is actively growing and expanding its network to new destinations. The philosophy of this chain is clear from the first moment, to offer the modern traveler space, freedom and comfort in the best locations in the city.
MY MASTER TREVI ROME APARTMENT, ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT WITH COURTYARD VIEW
I stayed in a one-room apartment and immediately upon entering I realized that it was a well-designed space. The design is minimalist with Scandinavian influences consisting of neutral colors, clean lines, natural materials and carefully selected furniture. Nothing is superfluous, and nothing essential is missing.
The living room has a spacious sofa, designer chairs and access to a balcony overlooking the peaceful inner courtyard. On the ceiling are designer lamps that give the space character, while on the walls are abstract art paintings in warm tones. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light, making the space feel even bigger.
The bedroom is separated from the living room, which is a big plus for anyone who appreciates privacy and peace during sleep. The bed is extremely comfortable, the bedding is soft and of high quality, and there are elegant table lamps with warm light next to the bed. On the wall above the bed hang two framed abstract paintings that perfectly complement the overall aesthetics of the space.
A kitchen that really works
The kitchen in my apartment was not just decorative. It is equipped with dark wooden elements with a black work surface, and the built-in lighting under the upper elements gives the space a warm and pleasant tone. I had at my disposal an espresso machine, a toaster, a kettle, a fridge, an oven and a hob.
I was particularly impressed by the cutlery drawer, everything is neatly organized and of good quality. There are knives, spoons, forks, ladles, wine corkscrews and other accessories that allow you to really cook, not just reheat ready meals. I rarely meet this level of equipment even in much more expensive facilities.
master Trevi Rome Bathroom with special details
The bathroom in Master Trevi Rome deserves special attention. The sink is made of one piece of stone in warm beige tones and looks modern and elegant at the same time. White towels are neatly folded under the sink, and there is also a hair dryer.
The shower cabin has a large rain shower with black fittings that provides a real spa experience. Dispensers with high-quality products for body and hair care are placed next to the shower. In the bathroom, there is also a bathrobe with an embroidered master brand logo and slippers, small details that make a big difference in the overall experience.
What particularly pleasantly surprised me were the heated floors in the bathroom. In the morning, when you step on the warm floor with your bare feet, you realize how much a seemingly small detail can improve the entire experience of your stay.
COMMON MASTER TREVI ROME SPACE: THE HEART OF THIS APARTHOTEL
The ground floor of Master Trevi Rome hides a common space that is at the same time a lobby, a living room and a place to socialize. It is equipped with designer furniture in earth tones, leather chairs, soft armchairs and a long desk for those who want to work or organize meetings.
This space is adorned with large green plants, an elegant chandelier with round glass spheres, and subdued light that creates the atmosphere of a living room rather than a hotel lobby. There is a vase with fresh flowers on the central table, and in the background there is a space with common facilities.
Master Trevi Rome Complimentary snacks, wine and breakfast
One of the things that sets this aparthotel apart from many similar facilities is the free content in the common area. Cheeses, olives, artichokes, chorizo, olive oil, various spreads, crackers and nuts are available to guests, all beautifully served in glass containers and metal bowls.
There is also a bar with a professional coffee machine, wine glasses and bottles of Italian wine. This is not a hotel minibar with highlighted prices, here everything is included in the price of accommodation. You can have a glass of wine in the evening after a full day of walking around Rome, or an espresso in the morning before starting a new day of exploring.
Breakfast is also available in the common area. The offer includes fresh croissants, various pastries, jams, honey, fresh fruit, squeezed juices and, of course, coffee. It’s not a big hotel buffet, but everything is fresh, high-quality and just enough to start the day in the right way in the heart of ancient Rome.
Laundry room, a practical detail for longer stays
For travelers on a longer trip, Master Trevi Rome offers a free laundry service. There are LG washers and dryers in a separate room, as well as lockers for personal belongings while you wait for laundry. This is an extremely useful detail, especially if you are on a trip of several weeks or if you are arriving from another city with suitcases full of worn clothes.
INTERIOR COURTYARD, AN OASIS OF PEACE IN THE MIDDLE OF ROME
When I first stepped out onto the balcony of my apartment, I was greeted by the view of the inner courtyard, which seems like a small Mediterranean garden in the middle of the city. Palm trees, olive trees, bushes and colorful facades of the surrounding buildings in warm ocher and terracotta tones, all this makes you feel as if you are in a Roman palace, and not in an aparthotel.
The modern glass facade of the Master Trevi Rome with its bluish balcony railings and plant pots creates an interesting contrast with the surrounding old buildings. That combination of new and old perfectly depicts the spirit of Rome itself, a city that has always known how to connect the past and the present.
The courtyard is extremely quiet, despite being in the very center of one of the most visited cities in the world. During my stay, I never had the impression that I was in a noisy tourist epicentre.
CHECK-IN WITHOUT WAITING, HOW DOES ARRIVAL WORK?
Master Trevi Rome uses a contactless application system. At the entrance to the building, next to the golden board with the inscription “hotel master TREVI” and four stars, there is a digital keyboard. You complete the entire registration process over the phone before your arrival, and upon arrival you simply enter the code and enter.
No waiting in line, no filling out forms at the front desk. For travelers arriving late at night or early in the morning, this is an invaluable advantage. At the same time, the team of employees is always available via messages if you need anything, perhaps an extra towel, a restaurant recommendation or help with organizing transportation.
WHAT TO DO IN ROME?
During my stay at Master Trevi Rome I made a list of the most important Roman sights. I visited each of them on foot from the aparthotel, because the location is really ideal for visiting all the most important sights of the eternal city.
Trevi Fountain
The most famous fountain in the world is located literally two minutes from the Master Trevi Rome. It was built in the eighteenth century according to the project of the architect Nicola Salvia, and the central figure represents the god Ocean on a chariot pulled by sea horses. It is twenty-six meters high and almost fifty meters wide, which makes it the largest fountain in Rome. According to tradition, if you throw a coin into the fountain, you are guaranteed to return to Rome.
My advice is to visit the fountain early in the morning, before eight o’clock. During the day, the crowds are huge and it will be difficult to take a photo without a crowd of people in the frame. Early morning offers a completely different experience of peace, quiet and a fountain just for you.
The Colosseum and the Roman Forum
The Colosseum is undoubtedly the most recognizable symbol of Rome and one of the new seven wonders of the world. It was built in the first century AD and could accommodate between fifty and eighty thousand spectators. Today it is the most visited attraction in Italy, so I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid hours of waiting.
Right next to the Colosseum is the Roman Forum, the former center of political, religious and social life in ancient Rome. A walk among the remains of temples, basilicas and triumphal arches takes you back two thousand years.
Pantheon
The Pantheon is one of the best-preserved ancient buildings in the world. It was built by Emperor Hadrian in the second century, and its dome with an opening at the top is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. Entrance is free, but reservations are now required.
Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna
The 135-step Spanish Steps connect Piazza di Spagna with the Trinità dei Monti church at the top. This is one of the most photographed places in Rome and a favorite gathering place for tourists and locals alike.
The Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel
The Vatican Museums hold one of the most valuable art collections in the world. The Sistine Chapel, with Michelangelo’s frescoes on the ceiling, is the crowning glory of this visit. Plan on at least three to four hours for the tour, and buy tickets in advance because the lines are extremely long.
Piazza Navona
Piazza Navona is one of the most beautiful Roman squares, famous for Bernini’s Fountain of the Four Rivers in the center. The square is surrounded by cafes and restaurants, and the atmosphere is always lively, there is no shortage of street artists, painters and musicians.
Trastevere: The soul of true Rome
If you want to feel how real Romans live, cross the Tiber River and step into Trastevere. This district with its narrow cobbled streets, ivy covered facades and small family restaurants offers the most authentic Roman experience. Here you will eat the best Roman pasta carbonara, caço e pepe and amatricana as they should be. Trastevere is about a twenty-minute walk from Master Trevi Rome, and the walk leads through some of the most beautiful parts of the city.
Aventine Keyhole and the view through the keyhole
Few of the tourists know about this place, and exactly such secrets make Rome special. On the Aventine Hill, in front of the door of the Knights of Malta villa, there is a keyhole through which you can see a perfectly framed view of the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. The queue for this attraction is usually not long, and the experience is unforgettable.
FOOD IN ROME, WHERE AND WHAT TO EAT NEAR THE APARTHOTEL?
Rome is a city where it’s hard to eat badly, but it’s easy to fall into tourist traps. My advice is to avoid restaurants that have colorful menus in multiple languages and staff that call out to you from the street. Instead, look for bars where the Romans sit, you will recognize them by the noise, laughter and lack of free seats.
There are many excellent restaurants around Master Trevi Rome. Be sure to try the supplì, fried balls of risotto with mozzarella, then the stuffed zucchini flowers and of course the Roman pizza, thin and crispy. For dessert, ice cream from one of the many artisan patisseries makes the perfect end to any meal.
If you like coffee the way Italians drink it, know that an espresso in Rome costs between one and two euros at the bar. Sitting at a table usually costs more, but the experience is different. The espresso machine in your apartment at Master Trevi Rome allows you to drink your first morning espresso in the peace of your apartment, before you venture into Roman everyday life.
THE BEST TIME TO VISIT ROME
Rome can be visited all year round, but each season offers a different experience. Spring, from March to May, is considered the ideal period. The temperatures are pleasant, the parks are in full bloom, and the tourist crowds are not yet at their peak.
Autumn, from September to November, is also a great choice. The heat subsides, the summer tourists leave, and the city gets a warmer and calmer atmosphere. Winter in Rome is rarely harsh, temperatures rarely fall below five degrees, and the festive atmosphere gives the city a special charm.
Summer can be challenging due to high temperatures that often exceed thirty-five degrees. If you do travel in the summer, the air conditioning in each Master Trevi Rome apartment will be your best ally after a whole day spent in the sun.
HOW TO GET AROUND ROME DURING YOUR STAY?
Rome is a city that is best explored on foot. Most of the main sights are within a fifteen to thirty minute walk of each other, and along the way you will discover hidden streets, small squares and bars that no guidebook mentions. Comfortable shoes are a must, Roman cobblestones can be merciless to your feet.
For longer distances, the metro is fast and reliable. Rome has three metro lines, and the Barberini station, the closest to Master Trevi Rome, is on line A which leads to the Vatican, the Spanish Steps and Termini station. A single ticket costs one and a half euros, while a day ticket costs seven euros and is valid for an unlimited number of metro, bus and tram rides.
Taxis in Rome have fixed prices for rides from the airport of 50 euros from Fiumicino and 30 euros from Ciampino to the city center. These prices are regulated and drivers are obliged to respect them. Transport apps also work in Rome and can be a cheaper option depending on the time of day.
PRACTICAL TIPS FOR FUTURE GUESTS OF MASTER TREVI ROME
Based on my own experience, I would like to share some useful tips for anyone planning to stay at this aparthotel.
Check-in to the apartment is available from 3 p.m., but if you need to check-in earlier, it’s enough to inform them in advance via message. Check-out is until eleven o’clock in the morning. The facility does not have its own parking lot, which is common for accommodation in the very center of Rome. Honestly, you don’t even need a car in the center of Rome, everything is within walking distance or one or two metro stops away.
Pets are allowed with an extra charge of twenty euros per night, which is useful information for travelers traveling with their four-legged friend. The wireless Internet speed is over one hundred megabits per second, which is quite enough for work, video calls or content transfer.
As for the prices, they vary depending on the season and the type of apartment. By making a direct reservation through the official website of the master brand, you get a five percent discount compared to the prices on other accommodation reservation platforms.
WHY WOULD I RECOMMEND MASTER TREVI ROMA?
After all the hotels I’ve stayed in around the world, I can safely say that Master Trevi Rome offers something that I rarely come across, an authentic feeling of home in the best possible location. This is not a building that tries to dazzle you with marble and gilding. Instead, it wins you over with thoughtful design, functional space, and little touches like complimentary wine, heated floors, and handwritten recommendations on a hotel notepad.
For travelers who appreciate space, peace and independence while traveling, and at the same time do not want to give up hotel service and a top location, Master Trevi Rome is an exceptional choice. I especially recommend it to couples and families who are planning a stay of three or more nights, because that’s when this concept comes into its own.
Rome is a city that cannot be visited in one day, or in one visit. But with the right base, quiet, comfortable and just two minutes from the Trevi Fountain, every day in the Eternal City becomes exactly what it should be. Without hurry, with style and with the feeling of being at home, even when you are thousands of kilometres away from it.
Have you already had the opportunity to visit Rome, this eternal city where ancient columns rise next to baroque fountains, and two thousand years of history live on every step of the streets where emperors, popes and the greatest artists of Western civilization walked? Have you felt what it’s like to wake up two minutes from the Trevi Fountain, drink your first morning coffee on a balcony overlooking a peaceful Mediterranean courtyard and step into a day that offers you endless possibilities? Or maybe you are just planning to step into this magnificent labyrinth, get lost in the narrow streets behind the Pantheon, feel the energy of the city that breathes through its squares and fountains, but also find moments of silence in hidden churches and courtyards that keep priceless masterpieces?
If you are planning a trip to Rome, I hope you find this guide to Master Trevi Rome and the city itself useful. Feel free to leave your impressions, comments or questions below the text or contact me via email and social networks. All information is available on the CONTACT page.
Dear Rome, see you again. Because, as the legend says, I already threw a coin in the fountain! See you soon, with a new story from the heart of old Europe!
With Love from Rome,
Mr.M
This post is sponsored by the Master Trevi Rome, as well as other local partners who have selflessly supported this project. This post is my personal and honest review of the destination experience.

Marko, what an incredibly detailed review. I stayed at the Hotel de Russie near Piazza del Popolo a few years back and it was wonderful, but the aparthotel concept you describe here is something entirely different and very appealing. The idea of having a full kitchen, complimentary wine and that quiet courtyard just two minutes from Trevi Fountain sounds like the ideal setup for a longer Roman stay. I’m curious, did you find it easy to get fresh groceries nearby to actually cook in that kitchen, or did you mostly eat out?
Excellent post Marko, this is exactly the kind of thorough review I look for before booking accommodation. My wife and I visited Rome in 2019 and stayed at the Hotel Artemide on Via Nazionale, which was lovely but a traditional hotel in every sense. The aparthotel concept seems like a natural evolution for modern travel, especially the contactless check-in system. I appreciate you mentioning the fixed taxi rates from Fiumicino we were overcharged on our last trip because we didn’t know about the regulated fifty euro fare. One question though: is the daily cleaning service included or is there an… Read more »
Marko, I’ve been following your European press tour and this Rome piece might be my favourite so far. The detail about the heated bathroom floors genuinely surprised me that’s a feature I associate with high-end Scandinavian hotels, not a four-star aparthotel in central Rome. The photography throughout the post is exceptional, particularly the shots of the courtyard with those warm ochre and terracotta facades. I’m planning a trip to Rome this autumn and the Master Trevi is now firmly on my shortlist. Would you say three nights is enough to do the city justice, or should I plan for four… Read more »
Read more »
This is such a well-written and informative post, Marko. As someone who travels frequently for both work and pleasure, the aparthotel concept is extremely appealing. I stayed at the Portrait Roma near the Spanish Steps a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it, but I find myself increasingly drawn to accommodation that offers more independence and space. The complimentary breakfast with fresh croissants and squeezed juices sounds delightful without being overwhelming. Your tip about the Aventine Keyhole is wonderful, I had never heard of it before reading your post.
Marko, your photography really brings this property to life. The shot of you in the bathrobe on the bed perfectly captures the relaxed atmosphere you describe throughout the review. I’ve stayed at The St. Regis Rome before, which is obviously a very different tier of hotel, but what strikes me about the Master Trevi is the value proposition complimentary wine, snacks, laundry, breakfast and a kitchen, all within two minutes of the Trevi Fountain. That’s hard to beat at any price point. Quick question: you mentioned the internet speed is over a hundred megabits did you actually test it, and… Read more »
Read more »
Hi Marko, I must say the laundry room detail caught my attention more than anything else in this review. As someone who regularly takes two or three week trips across Europe, the ability to wash clothes mid-journey without paying exorbitant hotel laundry fees is genuinely valuable. I once paid nearly forty pounds to have three shirts laundered at a hotel in London. The LG washers and dryers at Master Trevi being completely free is a standout feature. Your point about the aparthotel being ideal for stays of three nights or more is well taken I think this would be perfect… Read more »
Fantastic review Marko. I visited Rome with my family in 2024 and we struggled with the limited space in our hotel room near Piazza Navona two adults and a teenager in one room for five nights was challenging. The one, two and three bedroom apartments at Master Trevi would have made our trip so much more comfortable. The fact that each apartment has its own kitchen means no more overpriced hotel breakfasts for a family of three. Is the area around Via dei Maroniti safe to walk around in the evening, or does it get quiet after dark?
Toller Beitrag, Marko.
Marko, I really appreciate the section on what to do in Rome. Your guide reads like a local’s recommendations rather than a copy from a tourist brochure. I was particularly intrigued by the Aventine Keyhole I’ve been to Rome three times and never heard of it. The Master Trevi itself looks superb, and the inner courtyard with palm trees and olive trees surrounded by those terracotta buildings is genuinely beautiful. I noticed you mentioned the master brand has properties in several cities including Barcelona and Athens have you stayed at any of their other locations, and if so, how do… Read more »
Read more »
Great review Marko. The stone sink in the bathroom and the rain shower with black fittings look absolutely stunning in your photographs. I stayed at the Hotel Palazzo Manfredi overlooking the Colosseum back in 2021, which was an unforgettable experience, but the Master Trevi appeals to me for entirely different reasons. The emphasis on functional design, personal space and those thoughtful extras like the complimentary snack selection sets it apart from typical tourist accommodation. Your advice about comfortable shoes for Roman cobblestones is spot on I learned that lesson the hard way on my first visit.
Marko, what I find most impressive about this review is the level of practical information you provide. The details about metro ticket prices, fixed airport taxi fares and the five percent discount for direct booking are the kind of things that actually help travellers make better decisions. I’ve bookmarked your blog after reading this post because it’s clear you approach travel writing with the same analytical mindset I appreciate. The Master Trevi seems perfectly positioned for someone like me who values independence but doesn’t want to sacrifice quality or location. Well done.
Superbe article Marko, bravo.
